[edit]We'd like to invite you to participate in a user study closely related to SuggestBot. User:Another Article is seeking to understand more about the workflow and time commitment of contributors to the English Wikipedia. As part of this study you will occasionally be prompted to answer questions about your editing activity, and these questions should never take more than a minute or two to complete. The intended length of the study is two weeks, but your actual time commitment is totally up to you. If you would like to see more details you can read the project proposal at Research:Measuring editor time commitment and workflow (on meta), but if you are feeling bold and would like just like to sign up right now you can add the line importScript("User:Another_Article/workflowstudyclient.js");
to your common.js
. Contact User:Another Article if you have any questions about this study!
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information. For more information about the columns and categories, please consult the documentation and please get in touch on SuggestBot's talk page with any questions you might have.
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly; your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

New Page Review needs your help
[edit]Hi Hack,
As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).
Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.
Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.
It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

A11 Made up one day
[edit]Hi. Sorry, but you shouldn't use that on people (or anything else that's really solid...). It's for things that could be real, but no notability is shown (or likely), and no-one outside a very small group is likely to have even heard of them. This means things like new drinking games like Vodka Pong (think Beer Pong with an added quality of removing idiots from society...), new words like 'squangefrit' (the feeling you get when you wake up alongside a dead porcupine, or green navel lint), or the game of Waterball (a cross between water polo and baseball which is the newest fashion in the nation, or at least, allegedly in the part of the nation that is Class 6G at Deadmole Flatts High). These could exist. People are stupid enough. But these things are why we have A11 - they can't prove they are real, and we can't prove they aren't. They sure as heck ain't notable or even significant. On the other hand, people exist or don't. They do things, or don't. A claim that a 13 year old has married Madonna is a hoax, and a claim that someone played for Squidgeley FC in 2027 is also a hoax. They aren't real, and at present, can't be. (WP:CRYSTAL takes care of future potential...) There is a lot of confusion about the difference between made-up and hoax. On WP. made-up could be real (WP:AGF), but hoax is clearly deliberate misinformation. I'm trying to catch as many patrollers as I can to make the differences clearer, as if a criterion gets misapplied too much, the save the rubbish brigade will try to get it scrapped. (I'm still not sure how A11 got through the discussions anyway - but it's useful.) Peridon (talk) 15:08, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Peridon: should I have gone for A7? Hack (talk) 15:17, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- No, not really. One of the claims was 134 appearances for Swansea City (with 104 goals). By itself, that would easily pass A7. The problem is that he 'did' it in 2023-26. By my calendar, that's impossible. G3 hoax is the right criterion - which is what I used. I seem to remember a kid called Lachie that we've already had trouble with, by the way, but I can't track it down because the WP search system won't give near misses on deleted items. There was another article by this title in which he appeared to be a school rugby player. I'm going to warn him. He's had his brief moment of glory... Peridon (talk) 15:29, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- It may not have been a complete hoax though. The subject may exist and legitimately be at the football club he claimed to currently play for. Hack (talk) 15:44, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- Doesn't really matter. The thing was posted as wishful thinking or deliberate misinformation. The hoax is the parts he hasn't done. What he has done looks to fail A7 at a quick look, but the G3 overrides that anyway. We get these fairly often. Kids trying to look good to their mates, and prove how Wikipedia isn't accurate as well. On occasion, it's a parent or older brother who creates it as a 'birthday card', but allowing it is opening the door for more 'tributes', 'memorials', 'cards' and other social media stuff. It does come hard deleting a 'memorial' to a small child, but it's got to be done if the standards are to be kept up, and we aren't to descend into becoming another Facebook. With memorials and such, I don't 'warn' but explain. Oh, yes, I tracked down the other Lachie after a bit. No connection to this one. Peridon (talk) 17:05, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

DYK for LaMia
[edit]On 1 January 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article LaMia, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that when it leased the planes of a failed Venezuelan airline, a Bolivian company retained the name LaMia to avoid the cost of repainting the aircraft? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/LaMia. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, LaMia), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Left message on S. Perera (Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club cricketer)
[edit]Hi - I left a talk page message on this page. Almost all of these articles for KYCC were deleted by PROD with this one being the only one which was deleted by AfD. I decided at the time to reinstate this one alongside the others, as per WP:BOLD. Bobo. 18:46, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
- Please note that this situation is different to the one we were facing before about this being a previously deleted page. A bunch of cricketers who played for Kurunegala YCC were prod-ed (back in 2010!) and this was the only one deleted via an AfD discussion. I set this one up again as completionism while the others had been prod-ed. Bobo. 19:09, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
What interests me...
[edit]This whole situation could have been avoided if, like the other cricket biography articles, such as Satyen Bhattacharjee, you had placed a cleanup notice instead of a deletion notice. Please would you consider doing this instead? Let's face it, those articles could do with a face-lift! I've made this suggestion on the talk page for when someone sees the hang-on tag. Bobo. 19:16, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

Dear User: Hack
As a member of the "WikiProject Australian rules football" it would be good to hear your opinion on a current debate occurring on the 2018 AFL season talk page.
The debate centres around whether or not a third column should be included in the club attendance table to display "home state games vs. interstate opposition".
The main justification is that Victorian clubs play on average 7 home derbies each year compared to non-victorian clubs who play only 1 home derby each year. This provides an average home figure for Victorian clubs which is inflated as their home games have the fans of other Victorian clubs attending.
Please provide whether you support or oppose this proposal for AFL Club attendance tables.
