Orphaned non-free media (File:International Bar Association logo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:International Bar Association logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:18, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

International Bar Association

[edit]

Thank you for your work on the Internation Bar Association article, which was in a bad way. I note you have ran into difficulties with another senior contributor due to your lack of independent references. It is not adequate to simply give references from only the agency themselves. I have little knowledge of the legal profession and it's organisations, however I am aware the the IBA is an important body. What will stabilise the article and impress the body of contributors will be references to external authorities e.g. other organisations, books, etc, and not relying entirely on the organisation itself, as this could potentially lead to the perception of an imbalanced or biased article. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require further assistance in this matter, but remember 1. I have little knowledge of the subject matter and 2. I am not very up to date with Wikipedia although I have a reasonable grounding in it's core philosophies. As a start, could I suggest that you look in your library and on the internet for a broader range of references and further reading.--File Éireann 18:39, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for your support Éireann. I appreciate that more external sources should be included and will try to do it soon -I only do this in my spare time. I will also contact some other page contributors to see how they can help. My only question is why, for an organisation like the IBA, the use of some internal references is so wrong for Wikipedia administrators. If you see pages like the UN General Assembly, the World Trade Organisation or, for instance, the American Bar Association (just to name a few similar organisations), there is an understandable reference to their websites. thanks JackMalkovich 16:09, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Goguca,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Anti-Corruption Strategy for the Legal Profession, may be copied from http://www.ibanet.org/LPD/AntiCorruption_Committee/AC_strategy_legal_profession_about.aspx. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 10:24, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Anti-Corruption Strategy for the Legal Profession requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.ibanet.org/LPD/AntiCorruption_Committee/AC_strategy_legal_profession_about.aspx. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Forward Unto Dawn 10:25, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

John Ruggie photo

[edit]

Hi, I just put a speedy-delete tag on File:John Ruggie.jpg. I see you've worked on a lot of pages for academics -- if you are not aware, you should consider that non-free use is almost never permitted in the case of a living person. See this policy page (specifically item #1): Wikipedia:Non-free content#UULP Let me know if you have questions. -Pete (talk) 22:08, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Really Good Friends has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of individual notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
