Happy new year

In recognition of your excellent, and highly accurate, CSD tagging, particularly the nastier attack pages. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 05:28, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Btw, your userpage says you're in London. Don't know if you'd have any interest in this. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 05:28, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks, and Happy New Year to you too. I have thought about coming along, but not yet been able to. I must drag myself away from my PC one of these weekends... Cheers. GILO   ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY 05:32, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Good work. It's good to get a little positive feedback; I'm not always sure about NPP, and most feedback for it is negative. Thanks again, and I'll try to make it to one of these. GILO   ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY 05:41, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Such is life, especially for a WP admin! All too often we're only noticed when we make a mistake (Wikipedians in general and admins in particular), but I guess we just have to make the effort to compliment each other on a job well done once in a while. Hi,I wrote an article about an architect I like, but it has been deleted by you because you think is for advertising. Can you please at least remove completely the article or tell me how can I do it? As far as I can tell, it was not correct; the section is about criticism of the plan, and explains that advances in warfare made the plan unfeasible. The quote immediately after states that "the plan would again become possible in the next generation". I am, however, not an expert in this area, and if I am wrong please feel free to revert the edit. Regards, GILO   ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY 20:10, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Gilo1969,

I noticed that User talk:Frantzedward.cha has blanked your deletes three time now on Noah Z. Jones, the last time presumably because he thought that in-line citing to the subject's facebook page fitted the bill. I was going to add a delete again but thought that he would just do the same. I don't quite know what to do about this article and editor, but I think something has to be done. Any ideas? Acabashi (talk) 21:39, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Speedy Delete of Kenny Lunkins

Hi Gilo1969, I'm just stopping by to let you know I removed your CSD tag from Kenny Lunkins. In my estimation, the claim that "Kenny Lunkins is consider by many in the boxing circles as one of the best Cruiserweights to never fight for a world tittle" is reasonably credible and a sufficient assertion of notability to survive CSD:A7, but if the article isn't improved soon to either reference that claim, or to provide alternate grounds for notability, it would be a good candidate for AFD. Monty845 03:43, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Gilo1969/2011. Thank you for patrolling new pages. Patrolling is an essential function at Wikipedia, not only to prevent the wrong kind of pages staying online, but also to do some basic research and tag them for attention. The page you tagged CSD-A7 at Jaxune was clearly an attack page and should have been blanked and tagged G10 for very fast deletion. Attack pages raise a red alert on administrator's control panels. There is currently a drive to improve the quality of patrolling - you can help! Please read these pages, preferably in this order: WP:NPP (recently updated), WP:DELETION, WP:CSD, WP:10CSD, WP:FIELD, and WP:A7M, and if there's anything that is not clear, don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. You may even wish to make your own suggestions for improvement on the NPP page. Happy editing! --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:09, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

American Clan Gregor Society

My entry of information about the American Clan Gregor Society was removed. The reason, as I understand it, was copyright-related.

I am a member of the governing Council of the American Clan Gregor Society and am also the Webmaster who maintains their site and provides its content in accordance withthe wishes of the Council.

Yes, the text in my attempted Wiki page did duplicate that of the American Clan Gregor Society's page. That was purposeful.

What can I do to solve the problem and get a Wiki page for the American Clan Gregor Society?

Jim MacGregor

If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: Speedy delete contest button.png which appears inside of the speedy deletion notice, which will allow you to make your case on the page's talk page. Changing Thomas Forrest from Esq to Financier

Dear Gilo,

I see that you changed a historical article that I posted today. Please consider reverting it.

"Esq" is a title. It stands for Esquire and in the beginning of the 17th century it was used by lesser sons of noble families. Thomas's elder brother Miles inherited the title Sir (Knight). To refer to Thomas Forrest as a "Financier" is a 21st century term that is inappropriate in history. This would be like referring to the Charles, Prince of Wales, as Charles Windsor, "Environmentalist".

Thanks ClassicalScholar 01:06, 1 May 2011 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by ClassicalScholar (talkcontribs)

Sorry, didn't realise the significance of the Esq. I chose financier as that is how you described him in the intro of the article. Please feel free to change it back; the page Thomas Forrest (disambiguation) should also be updated to reflect any changes. Best wishes, GILO   A&E 01:10, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Just a friendly reminder

I see you are more towards the maintenance side of Wikipedia. Your work nominating attack and otherwise unworthy new pages for speedy deletion is remarkable. However, I want to bring up the fact that if you see an autobiographical article, it may be a good idea to move it to the creator's user page if at all possible. Good luck and happy editing, illogicalpie (eat me) —Preceding undated comment added 19:29, 1 May 2011 (UTC).

CSD G12 on GRB 090429B

Hi, I just wanted to let you know I challenged your CSD G12 tagging of GRB 090429B. In my opinion, there is a substantial likelihood that the text in question is in the public domain as a product of the US Government. As such GRB 090429B is not a suitable candidate for criteria G12. I have no objection if you would like to pursue an alternative deletion process (or even alternative CSD criteria) on the article. Monty845 19:27, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Folding Legs

Hello! Folding Legs has had a page here on Wikipedia for over a year, under the name Otterclan. During that entire time, they were deemed as relevant. I originally saw this band in Brooklyn last year, and have been a fan ever since. I recently became aware of the fact that the band has changed their name, and I wanted to create a new Wikipedia site reflecting that. I also edited the Otterclan page here on Wikipedia today, which was subsequently deleted. I can understand that, since it now only referred to a band that has changed their name and is active under Folding Legs instead. However, why the Folding Legs page itself has become a victim of speedy deletion, I do not understand. They may be an underground band, but they are definitely relevant. They have a following out here on the East Coast, especially in New York where they are based. I, along with their many other fans I am sure, would love to see a page on Wikipedia that is up to date with the new band name. If you would like to see them featured in something recently, please see this article from The New York Times that mentions them recording for Converse: https://myaccount.nytimes.com/auth/login?URI=http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/11/nyregion/aspiring-musicians-flock-to-a-studio-run-by-converse.html Please leave this page up. It means a lot to me and many of their fans, who enjoy popular underground music acts just as much as the mainstream Lady Gagas out there. Teratripp (talk) 02:02, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Erika Elizabeth Sambrone Prayor

Hi Gilo, I've deleted Erika Elizabeth Sambrone Prayorper G10 as an unsourced negative BLP rather than leave it as a sticky prod. Also it didn't quite qualify for a sticky prod as it did have a source in the external links. Sticky prods are for completely unsourced new BLPs, not for poorly sourced ones. I'm afraid that little quirk is because we only got the policy agreed with a rather awkward compromise that we have different tests for applying and removing a sticky prod. Screencast for new NPP tool design?

Hello. This is Ian Baker. I'm a developer over at the Wikimedia Foundation.

tl;dr: We’re designing a much-improved UI for NPP tools, and we’re seeking guidance—and hopefully, screencasts of your NPP workflow—from expert New Page Patrollers like yourself. We’re asking for this so we can see (literally) what actions you take during patrolling which could be better supported through software.

I'm contacting you because, according to our statistics, you're a particularly active New Page Patroller on the English Wikipedia. Here at the WMF, we're working on a design for a much-improved NPP user interface. We hope that it will (as part of a larger strategy) address many outstanding issues in the article creation process, while also providing a more modern, streamlined and efficient UX for patrollers.

To do this successfully, we are relying upon the guidance of our most experienced patrollers. I'm sending this message to the ten most prolific patrollers in 2011, and a few other people who've been participating actively in this discussion.

Specifically, I'm hoping you can take a few minutes to record a screencast of yourself doing NPP. We're looking for a 10-15 minute session, but more is okay if you feel it's needed. Ideally, you'd first walk us through your process, explaining as you go, and then switch to doing NPP at your usual pace.

Our preliminary examination of this feature has shown that many experienced patrollers have evolved their own specially-tailored interface and workflow, often using external tools and plugins. Making an interface that works well will require understanding those tools and the motivation for using them. However, even if you haven't done that, observing your NPP technique will still be valuable, giving us insights into what factors inform your judgement, how you use the existing interface, and how long NPP generally takes an expert patroller such as yourself.

If you'd like to help, great! I've posted a set of instructions over at the relevant thread on the Article Creation Workflow talk page, which should get you everything you need to know. If something's missing or you have a question, post it there. That's also the place to go if you want to learn more about the reasoning behind this request.

I understand that people have differing expectations of privacy with regard to their own computer and voice. Therefore, you can either post this screencast publicly (place a link in the talk page above) or if you'd prefer, send it to me privately at ian@wikimedia.org.

Of course, any other input on this feature that you’d like to provide is also welcome. Don't hesitate to get involved in the discussion on the above-linked talk page, or contact me personally. I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks! raindrift (talk) 00:17, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi Gilo1969. Thank you for your work on patrolling new pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for The Julie Ruin, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. A tool for you!

Hi Gilo1969! I've just come across one of your edits (or that you have been patrolling new pages), and noticed that you might appreciate some help with references.

I case you're not aware, you might consider using this tool – it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script:

// Add [[WP:Reflinks]] launcher in the toolbox on left
addOnloadHook(function () {
 addPortletLink(
  "p-tb", // toolbox portlet
  "http://toolserver.org/~dispenser/cgi-bin/webreflinks.py/" + wgPageName
   + "?client=script&citeweb=on&overwrite=&limit=30&lang=" + wgContentLanguage,
  "Reflinks" // link label
)});

onto Special:MyPage/skin.js, then paste the bare URL (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for PDF documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. So long! --Sp33dyphil ©© 05:23, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

CSD and PROD logs

Hi Gilo1969, after looking through your edits at Special:MyContributions/Gilo1969, I see that you've been tagging a number of articles for CSD and PROD. In case you're not aware, I'd to introduce you to WP:TWPREFS -- if you format Twinkle correctly, the script will automatically record all your CSD and PROD tags, at pages similar to this and this. The advantage of keeping these logs is that you can review all your tags even if the pages get deleted. --Sp33dyphil ©© 00:04, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Gilo — I noticed that the template you added to this BLP article had been removed. There is now a section entitled 'References', but it's only a vague list of institutions, which leaves it just as unreferenced as before. I've opted to place a BLP unsourced notice there for now — I hope that's OK. (RT) (talk) 03:09, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Issue now resolved — the article has been deleted. (RT) (talk) 18:38, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Or perhaps not. It's been recreated. Getting quite ridiculous now, but hopefully someone will be along to sort it out. (RT) (talk) 23:57, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Rudraksha Kapil

I just wanted to let you know that I changed the deletion rationale on Rudraksha Kapil. You had tagged it as A7, and while that applied, a better category here is WP:CSD#G3, blatant hoaxes, since the article claimed that "He has scored 976543456 goals so far and saved 5234678954 goals", among other things. The only real reason why it matters is that creating a hoax page is a form of vandalism, and thus is a quick step down the road to getting blocked. Qwyrxian (talk) 05:19, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

I've declined the speedy on this article because it is plausible enough not to qualify as a blatant hoax. This is probably just some kid giving a name to his own thinking pattern, so I brought the article to AfD instead. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 01:17, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you for fixing that re-direct. I was in the process of figuring it out but you beat me to it. I was in a state of 'Perplexicism' (and if that's not a real word it should be!, but maybe on Wiktionary, not here!) Thanks again! - 220 of Borg 23:32, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for putting my gallery, User:Chris857/Gallery, in the correct spot. I didn't notice that I had forgotten to place in the user space. Anyways, thanks. Chris857 (talk) 21:20, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
