Welcome!

Hello, Funnyhat, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.
Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

RE: Comerica smaller size

[edit]

Your assessment of the "artificial demand" is partially true. Writers have also commented on the move to smaller parks as being due to changing demographics. To be more blunt about it, baseball is not as "important" as it once was, compared with certain other sports. When the NFL started, they rented from the baseball teams. By the 1960s, the baseball teams were sharing with the NFL in facilities that were decidedly more conducive to football. Now they are going their separate ways, the NFL stadiums being larger, and the MLB parks being smaller. The "artificial demand" strategy seems to work, as long as the product is attractive. I wonder how small they would have to make Milwaukee's Miller Park so that demand would exceed supply?

Wahkeenah 06:34, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

That's the dilemma, the obstructed views. If you look at the old parks, even the original Yankee Stadium, and very observable in Wrigley Field also, you'll see that the lower deck was wide and the upper deck was narrow. That meant a lot of posts in the lower deck. What they have done, in essence, is to swap the lower and upper decks... which is not a good thing, for reasons such as the ones you cite. The real dilemma is that in baseball, there are only so many good seats, and the others are... well, not so good. Wahkeenah 02:46, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I somewhat belatedly picked up your change of the name of this species to the American lower case style; there is an agreed convention that bird species' names are always capitalised on Wikipedia (no agreement for other groups, although de facto for eg cetaceans, thanks, jimfbleak 05:11, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The following category Category:Buildings with sculpture by Corrado Parducci is up for deletion. Excellent edits to James. Caught that "sixteenth", a daft error which crept under the radar. Although "averse to marrying a heretic" was taken from a book, it clearly failed to make clear that the sentence had a point of view. qp10qp

Looking for Wikipedians for a User Study

[edit]

Hello. I am a graduate student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. We are conducting research on ways to engage content experts on Wikipedia. Previously, Wikipedia started the Adopt-a-User program to allow new users to get to know seasoned Wikipedia editors. We are interested in learning more about how this type of relationship works. Based on your editing record on Wikipedia, we thought you might be interested in participating. If chosen to participate, you will be compensated for your time. We estimate that most participants will spend an hour (over two weeks on your own time and from your own computer) on the study. Move to commons representation

The image Guardianbuilding.jpg is a candidate to be copied to the Wikimedia Commons. When you uploaded this image, you licensed it for use under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). On behalf of the Wikipedia and Commons communities, thank you.

You also chose a license tag which adds disclaimers to the GFDL. As explained at Wikipedia:GFDL standardization, these disclaimers cause certain re-use problems that make the GFDL less free than it could be.

Before I copy this image to the Commons, I wanted to ask whether you would be willing to remove the disclaimers from your GFDL tag. No one other than you may legally alter the license. If you do choose to modify the license on this image, I respectfully recommend any of the following best-practices license tags:

You are under no obligation whatsoever to alter the license. Doing so merely cooperates with those members of the community who believe that disclaimers in individual media are undesirable. Wikipedia consensus still allows GFDL licenses with disclaimers, as does the Commons.

Whether or not you choose to remove the disclaimers, thank you for your consideration.

Please also see Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons for more information.

I've gone ahead and copied the image over to the Commons with the same license as you originally applied. If you do yet elect to change the license, please remember to do so over at the Commons - the Wikipedia file will be deleted, and any changes are unlikely to be transferred to the Commons. Thanks for your generous contribution to the Community. Ipoellet (talk) 05:36, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious

[edit]

Regarding your edit at France, I was wondering why an alphabetical listing of countries bordering France is superior to a clockwise listing, starting from Belgium in the north. The alphabetic listing actually removes useful information that is conveyed by the geographical ordering.

Your change regarding the period of French dominance ("since the latter half of the 17th century") was less questionable, given that no justification was actually given for referring to that specific century. Nevertheless, pinpointing the point at which France became a predominant power is interesting and useful information, whereas "for centuries" is vague to the point of meaninglessness.

I've changed a couple of your edits to this page-- the location in Paris where Marat is interred is, in fact, the Panthéon (with an accent). I also do feel that it would be more correct to speak in terms of the end of the Terror, as the Reign of Terror is more typically referred to in brief by this name. I don't think I've ever seen it abbreviated to "the Reign;" however, if you have a compelling reason for preferring this, I'm more than happy to consider it. Formal mediation has been requested

[edit]
The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Hispaniola". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 6 December 2011.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.
Message delivered by MediationBot (talk) on behalf of the Mediation Committee. 23:45, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Funnyhat. Do you want to participate in the mediation? We are awaiting your response to the proposal, above, to open mediation proceedings for the dispute concerning Hispaniola. Request for mediation rejected

[edit]
The request for formal mediation concerning Hispaniola, to which you were listed as a party, has been declined. Siege of Paris (1435-1436) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Siege of Paris (1435-1436), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 17:13, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
