Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Rameswaram-Tirupathi Meenakshi express, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tirupathi (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hello Evano1van

Thank you for this information and the welcome. I will try to read up on as much as I can. Although it seems I may be dead in the water before I even get going as my name is possibly against the law. I received this along with your welcome.

Hey! You did the right thing in moving the article to the new title. I was going to do it myself. You lessened my work. Thanks. Now talking about your suggestion to dividing the article into two halves. I don't think the article is so big that it needs to be divided at the moment. It's just 12,755 bytes (at the time of writing this message). Your suggestion can be considered later, when the article has grown much-much more. By the way, hearty welcome to Wikipedia. Query re: abbreviated month names

Hi, why abbreviate the month names? Is this some new guidance that I am not aware of? - Sitush (talk) 07:44, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sitush, Please see MOS:DATEFORMAT. I use User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js and Abbrev all ref dates to make the ref dates concise. I am not aware of WP:India specific guidelines, if there are any, please point them to me. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 07:55, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I use that script. I am aware that there are almost always discussions going on in the fraught world of date formats but unless/until that script is altered, I see no reason to over-ride it. It is, after all, a very commonly used piece of code. - Sitush (talk) 07:58, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

ToI Indian news refs

We have thousands of ToI citations in Wikipedia (and it is always increasing). I generally prefer to use ToI sources. The Telegraph (Calcutta) is my second preference. (I sometimes feel disappointed when I see confused journalism in ToI (here I have given few examples User:Titodutta/Essays/Requested_Move:_Ideas_and_Opinions#Reliable_sources_are_not_reliable_always) You'll need to spend many hours to fix those. BTW, what are you fixing actually? We have a special Indian English newspaper search page too which you can use. --TitoDutta 04:58, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

I don't have preference over ToI references. Yes, we do have thousands of articles using ToI citations. I know I am going to spend many hours to fix links. My intent is to fix dead links and avoid dead links in future. Indian newspapers are notorious in maintaining archives. I have been recovering deadlinks manually for Indian express (Some ~400 articles still with deadlinks, but they have to recovered manually by googling and cannot be got semi automatically). It then came to my thought to prevent links going dead first place, so I have been fixing Sify, Hindu and now ToI links with their new URL schemes before the redirects go dead (already few hundred movies.timesofindia.com links are dead and have to be recovered manually). Once I get bored of ToI, I will move to Deccan Chronicle, Manorama or finish Hindu, Express links. I know the edits I make clutter watchlists, are of little value today (because links are not really dead), but then it is to make sure we don't end up having 1000's of dead links because of IT of some newspaper or an acquisition or a domain change. Give me sometime, I shall create a page listing details deadlinks and possible deadlinks in India references, how to recover deadlinks manually for each site, so that more hands can fix the problem faster. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 05:52, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I will have a look at WebCite. Yes, I am using a local script that will populate the wikitext and show me the diff, I just check the link and save. I encounter quite a few deadlinks in process, however I don't take time to tag them as its better to save a link than going around tagging few links as dead. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 06:06, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
The proble with webcitation is that it lacked funding and the last time I looked into it they were going to cease operations later this year. There was a discussion somewhere about the WMF possibly taking over the operation. - Sitush (talk) 09:19, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Latest news: WebCite is not shutting down. Gunther Eysenbach, WebCite initiator told

WebCite - a project I initiated - is humbled by the support from the Wikimedia / Wikipedia community. We are more than willing to discuss all possible options, including a "takeover" by WMF. Personally, I would think that leaving it a stand-alone entity with funding and strong ties to the WMF would be the better solution for all parties involved (not least, legal exposure), but this is for WMF to decide, and as WebCite initiator my primary goal is to see WebCite flourish and survive, which it may be best achieved the umbrella of the WMF. In any case, WebCite does need cash (we are hoping to raise $50k by end of this year to pay a developer for a much needed overhaul, more storage space etc). The third option is a commercial one, i.e. raise Venture Capital and/or charge for "pro/premium" memberships. The latter is the avenue we may have to pursue if other fundraising efforts fail. In the meantime, please donate at http://fnd.us/c/aQMp7 (preferably with a comment) - this will go a long way to demonstrate to potential funders that there is some serious need and support for a service like this. Gunther Eysenbach, University of Toronto, WebCite initiator

They have already collected a good amount of money. Now, if they apply for a grant, they'll easily achieve the goal. --TitoDutta 09:27, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Sites like ToI atleast have the intention of maintaining archives, so we can rely them(for most of non controversial stories) while we have no way but to use WebCite for say Pioneer / Deccan Chronicle. WebCite would also mean more manual work or write some complex code, both of them may take time. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 10:18, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Try using http://web.archive.org/, that hasn't yet announced any chance of expiry. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:11, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

URL changes

I saw the change you made to Javed Anand, replacing the link to

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/relationships/man-woman/Meet-the-husbands/articleshow/12132944.cms

with one to

http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-05-07/man-woman/31121113_1_raj-kundra-shilpa-shetty-pashmina/

If you key in the first url, the website server will redirect to the second, but it does so incorrectly. Before the Times of India restructured their web site, the first url pointed to an article titled "Meet the husbands: Javed Anand, journalist-activist". The new url points to an article titled "Meet the husbands: Raj Kundra, entrepreneur" - not the same at all. By retaining the original url, we have some hope of finding an archived version of the article it pointed to on 2012-03-21, or perhaps the website programmer will correct the error. The original url certainly did not point to the Raj Kundra article, which is dated May 7, 2012. I will restore the original url. Aymatth2 (talk) 16:22, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for detailed note. But if you go through the 3rd page of the link I replaced, you will find it. You are 2 clicks away from "Meet the husbands: Javed Anand, journalist-activist". http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-05-07/man-woman/31121113_1_raj-kundra-shilpa-shetty-pashmina/3. I am not going to violate 3RR and re-edit that back, but I would appreciate you if you could replace the link. TL;DR, Meet the husbands is a 4 page article and Javed comes in 3rd page, URL replaced / redirected is not really a deadlink. Thanks Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 17:46, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
You are right. I have fixed the WP article to point to the url for page 3 of the Times article, and changed the accessdate to today. The Times article date of May 7, 2012 is puzzling - the article was definitely present on 2012-03-21, as the article's edit history shows. Aymatth2 (talk) 18:08, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Sure, National magazines share content of magazines across editions and usually published with some delay. This shows it was published even before that on 2012-03-04. ToI may have consolidated regional editions magazine content and put together in 1 link in their new site. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 04:56, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Archiving

Good work fixing those Times of India links, but there's another thing u can do to stop link rotting: archive the URL's not via WebCite which is due to expire, but through http://web.archive.org/web/ where URL's entered get archived automatically (if not, within a day) when entered in its search bar. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:34, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, yes using some archive will only prevent link rotting, but there is a overhead of waiting for a day and also using the cite template. So fixes won't be as simple as a search and replace, may take time. A better way would be to have WebCite / Web Archive along with something like WP:REFLINKS so that its not time consuming to make the changes. For now, I am going to replace URLs to current ones(which is easier), but I will surely have this in mind as that would be the right way to solve the problem of linkrot. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 09:53, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
In the manner like how u fixed all the TOI links at Thuppakki, are u able to update/fix all The Hindu links in Karnan? Pls do so. Kailash29792 (talk) 06:07, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
They are not broken in first place. They are merely archived using web.artchive.org. There is no need to fix them. Thanks Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 06:29, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I really appreciate your good work in this article. I have improved your article to some extent. I suggest that you add some of the pictures of the riots in the article but make sure they do not pose a copyrighted material as I do not have exp in working with file uploads. Also, I see that the prev pictures were deleted due to that. Suresh 5 (talk) 03:25, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Thanks for your feedback and additions to the article. I am not sure if any copyrighted pictures can make it into article, given my pictures were deleted after they supposedly failed fair use rationale. A lot of improvement is needed on the article, but I am refraining from editing it because of frustration and bias created due to recent incidents on the subject and news coverage. I would appreciate if you can add more on background (with sources) and also make it more neutral (per talk page). Thanks! Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 13:43, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

I want that installed, just like it is for you. But I do not understand the syntax. Can u pls help? The imp page is here ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 04:53, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

I have put 3 lines of code at here. Copy this and paste it in common.js, remove everything else that's currently on the page and that should work. Word of caution is my custom advisor may crash sometimes(may crash more if its low RAM machine / I might be working on adding/testing something.) so if mine crashes your page, then copy and create your own custom advisor and remove rules which you don't want. I have put rules for Sify, Behindwoods, ToI and few other news sources. If you don't want all of them, remove unwanted rules and see if it works. Let me know if there are more useful patterns of junk, I could add a rule. I was irritated whenever someone uses WP:REFLINKS but fails to cleanup and I see "cinema preview stills gallery trailer video clips showtimes" and publisher=Ariticles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com part of the cite data. Opting in to VisualEditor

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 50 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:27, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

The article Medicine Baba has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I'm not sure if this can be fleshed out to a better quality article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Tarun Tejpal rape case

1) So charges of rape is personal information ?

2) NDTV Oneindia Hindustan Times Live Mint Business Standard Firstpost Outlook are covering this serious incident.

3) Also no part of that section contains any source from twitter etc.

So please explain the reason for blanking that section.

ps: please tell if following sources aren't credible/numerous enough:

@Anmol.2k4:
  1. I did not blank the section. I did leave the charge of rape and stepping aside with reliable source. I would again request you to go through WP:BLP completely to understand why the content was violating WP:BLP even though you had referenced from reliable sources.
  2. There was reference to KanchanGupta's tweet which is totally unacceptable anyday even if its not WP:BLP.
  3. The coverage for the rape was WP:UNDUE and I felt it amounted to Recentism.
  4. The reaction of Tehelka was probably okay to be on Tehelka's article / a seperate article if this blows out to be a notable controversy, but not on his biography.
  5. I am tired of reverting and won't like to break WP:3RR, hence reported in WP:BLPN.

Happy editing. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 20:27, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Notice: You have violated 3RR against my edits on Tarun Tejpal

Hi This is an WP:AGF notice to update that you may not have realised that you reverted my edits in 4 distinct tranches (as counted under wp:3rr) within a space of about 5 hours today. To remedy the situation I suggest that you self-revert your last edits, and both of us stop editing this page. I am leaving your last edits in place despite Wp:3rr permitting me to revert you (as clear violation of wp:blp) without violating 3rr myself.Turnitinpro (talk) 10:09, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

@Turnitinpro:, Thanks for you reminder, I will not be reverting as I feel my edits were in compliance with WP:BLP and the first revert was due to position taken at WP:BLPN where one editor asked to blank out sexual assault section per WP:BLPCRIME. As for reverting you career section blanking I feel your understanding of WP:BLP is wrong and I stand by my edits. Please discuss more at article's talk page or at WP:BLPN or elsewhere if you want to take up my WP:3RR. Thanks Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 12:28, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
This is not about content and who is "right" or who is "wrong", but is purely on technicalities (bean counter issues). On the sexual harassment text you reverted me 4 times within 5 hours, this after an Admin reinserted back my entire text which you had blanked out citing BLP. You repeatedly reinserted unsourced name of TT's wife back into the article knowing well he is majorly in the news now for sexual harassment. I was not a participant at BLPN and it does not concern me (as the page was already semi-protected when I first edited). You have also made a total of at least 6 major reverts (as counted for 3rr) in the past 24 hours to the various texts inserted on TT's "alleged sexual harassment". In none of your 4 reverts in my case will the "exemptions" to 3rr (including also BLPCRIME - for TT is a well known public figure in India) protect you. In all cases your edits were counter to the direction other editors were taking. I would sincerely request you not to wiki-lawyer(?), but simply self revert your last series of edits - as a token of your good faith and respect to Wikipedia and its policies. 24 hours does not make much difference in the larger scheme of things.Turnitinpro (talk) 12:55, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
BTW, your taking the matter to BLPN does not protect you from 3RR. Having reported it to the community, your duty was over with your 3rd revert on the page. The exemptions to 3RR are limited and specific (and you obviously knew them before you reverted me the first time).Turnitinpro (talk) 13:30, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
Okay, If you are going to accuse me of knowingly reinserting unsourced names in revert of your section blanking, I think I am wasting my time here. If TT is a well known person, what prevented you stop sourcing his career instead of section blanking and halving the biography leaving undue importance to controversy with respect to remaining article knowing fully well he is majorly in news now? I specifically asked to what points in the section you contest for which you have not answered yet. I am happy to learn the rules of play and stand corrected with / without a block from a un-involved person than avoiding it by a revert as I would like to know more on policies / technicalities than TT. If 24 hours doesn't really matter, you won't be replying here and would leave the article as it stands. PS: Please don't edit replies every few minutes, post them once / as seperate messages/sections. It's hard to see the edit conflict page every time I am about to reply and start from square 1. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 13:39, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
1) You crossed 3rr,(I did not). 2)There is no WP policy which requires any editor to add sources to text added or restored by someone else. 3) There is, however, a policy WP:ONUS that the editor who adds or restores text is burdened with proving it (you restored it, I did not). 4) I don't care particularly about the text in this article (or in 99.999% of articles I edit). I do care that my fellow editors respect WP rules and policies. So be a dear and self-revert.Turnitinpro (talk) 13:50, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
As for me, I did not cross WP:3RR because I thought my first revert was inline with discussion at WP:BLPN, which is why I went ahead and did the revert second time. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 14:10, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
This is my last message on this issue. Irrespective of what was going through your mind when you reverted me twice, the essential fact is that you reverted me 4 times on the same paragraph "sexual harassment" (including once when a 3rd editor reverted you) in the space of 5 hours (and which you don't deny happened). I am offering you an opportunity (by self reverting) to turn back the clock, and this matter ends here and now, with no imputations whatsoever and no strings attached. I repeat that I don't particularly care what the actual text/content of the article is, I merely want you to acknowledge that 3RR is a technical (bean counting) process for a core policy of WP.Turnitinpro (talk) 15:29, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Bombay Gnanam (orphan status)

my tag to this page( Bombay Gnanam) as Orphan has been reverted by you back to not orphan.... In the Wikipedia glossary, an orphan is defined as "an article with no links from other pages in the main article namespace". this is indeed an orphan as even the filmography that u provided doesn't contain any such name!! u have references but try to link other pages to it for it not to be orphan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by OWAIS NAEEM (talkcontribs) 13:31, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

@OWAIS NAEEM: 1. It is not orphan because Special:WhatLinksHere/Bombay_Gnanam has 2 articles. Before tagging orphan look at Whatlinkshere and not just the links listed on the page. 2. Always create new sections at the bottom of any talkpage. 3. Sign your posts with ~~~~ Thanks. Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 16:56, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

I have created a new category named Category:Films shot in Ooty. I think u would like to add more articles to the category. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 06:07, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

@Kailash29792: Nice, Its populated fairly well. Will keep in mind for future additions. Btw, I am currently looking at cleaning up links in list articles using User:Evano1van/MissingTamilFilmsInLists. Most of the lists contain links to dab / pages with similar names / unlinked, especially the older ones. I just burned down list of Tamil films without a year of release to something managable. Cheers Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 13:23, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
Seeing that list, I want an article on the film Naan Paadum Paadal to be created. It has some good songs like Devan Kovil Deepam Ondru, but lack of reliable sources stops me from creating the article. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 13:32, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Jilla

When answering an edit request at Talk:Jilla, you inserted a collapse box, but, although set around all the copy-pasted text, it only collapses part of it. I can't work out how to make it collapse all the copied article, I think this is because it contains sections. Can you fix this? or, if not, would you mind if I just deleted it, as I had done further up the page?

There is a big edit war at Jilla between opposing fans, falsifying the review scores, some higher than they really are, and claiming that this shows it was highly positively reviewed, and some lower than they really are, claiming it received negative reviews. Another pair of eyes from an experienced editor would be helpful - especially as I will be off-line for several hours.

Thanks Arjayay (talk) 14:13, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
I have just fixed the collapse now. I am not coming into edit wars, I will close trivial edit requests though. Thanks Evano1van(எவனோ ஓருவன்) 18:19, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Here we go again

This is getting worse, now they don't even maintain the archive site they once used to. I think its better to ask some bot to regularly monitor DC references and automatically archive them on internet archive / webcite as soon as they are added. Project Tagger

Hi Evano1van. I just used Project Tagger to add a WikiProject template to an article's talk page. I notice that it added "importance" and "quality" parameters. I was wondering - should the "quality" parameter be "class" instead? Most WikiProject templates with which I'm familiar have a "class" parameter, not a "quality" parameter. Thanks. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers

Hi Evano1van,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
