Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
- Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in January 2025 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!

Trouted
[edit]![]() |
Whack! You've been whacked with a wet trout. Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly. |
You have been trouted for: being wrong~~~~ •Cyberwolf•talk? 23:01, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Don't be embarrassed
[edit]You proposed something out of genuine concern and good intent. Some people agreed, some disagreed, some good points were raised (as well as some others.) But that's what the Village Pump is for. It's a great spot for people to float unlkely things, or new things to see if they have holes in them or if they've got something going. Success is not created by never failing, it's created by trying, learning, and getting one's self up again. Be good to yourself, find other ways to serve Wikipedia, and have a fine life beyond this odd little website. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 01:57, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Just felt like most missed my point •Cyberwolf•talk? 13:33, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- We had people want to remove stuff just to be able to attack people. I closed it cause i realized we as a society can’t handle being kind. And when some of us try to be kind and attempts to foster kindness are met with weaponization hopes and over generalization “does this prohibit me from discriminating against discriminatory groups” NO, what they do is discriminatory and discrimination is not allowed. I. Didn’t think i had to be specific. I was trying to have boundaries for cir •Cyberwolf•talk? 13:47, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
Thanks and sorry
[edit]Thanks again for recognizing my good faith in the AN/I a little over a week ago, and I'm sorry to see you've had a rough time since I took my break. I definitely know what it's like to have people miss my important points and to be frustrated that kindness doesn't go farther than it does. My approach to dealing with those off-wiki has been to get involved in org politics mindfully and deliberately and to read a lot of history and theory, and if you're interested, I'd be happy to recommend stuff that's helped me in the past and might help you.
If you'd like that, just let me know a little of your current background, intellectual taste, and technical comfort level. If not, no worries and I hope you find your own way to more robust hope in the face of these frustrations. RowanElder (talk) 22:42, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
CVU
[edit]Came across the CVU while doing RC Patrol stuff and saw that you 'train' users in the ropes of countering vandalism. I'd love to get more knowledge on how to combat vandalism more effectively. Thanks. Bntlyprce (talk) 03:23, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
