Regular editor

[edit]

It's pretty clear you know your way around here, so this account isn't the only or first one you have, and I personally have no issue with that, but others might. Just a friendly note. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:19, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't I tell you? I was IP98. That account is lost to the sands of time. This is actually my 3rd account, the first one never went near ITN and I don't go near those old topics anymore. --CosmicAdventure (talk) 19:49, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Europe can't do anything right

[edit]

I don't actually think that, I just want to see if the IP editor that's stalking me pops up here with some more derogatory commentary. --CosmicAdventure (talk) 14:24, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

November 2017

[edit]

Please stop attacking other editors, as you did on Wikipedia:In_the_news/Candidates#.5BReady.5D_2017_West_Side_Highway_incident. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. Sir Joseph (talk) 01:57, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note. You've badgered a number of editors over at that nom. The next (and in fact) only comment you need to leave on this talk page is an AN/I notice, because I have nothing to discuss with an alt-right crank unless it's part of the process of getting you T-banned from ITN/C. --CosmicAdventure (talk) 02:02, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am uninvolved with this matter, CosmicAdventure, but I am an administrator and you are hereby warned that it is completely unacceptable to call another editor a "racist" or an "alt-right crank". Stop this behavior now, or a block will follow promptly. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:10, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Cullen, so where do we discuss?
multiple (edit conflict) I would suggest that you take a deep breath and tone it down. Based on your commentary I don't think a trip to ANI would end well for you. You should regard this as a formal warning. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:12, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, so, in all seriousness, this is totally legit "Really? So a guy drives through a bunch of people, gets out and shouts Allah Akbar and you want to wait to find out his motive?"? It doesn't at all carry the connotation that making those remarks 1) made the perpetrator a Muslim and 2) he must have been a Muslim terrorist? It's totally and 100% to generalize about people like that at WP? --CosmicAdventure (talk) 02:14, 1 November 2017 (UTC) @Ad Orientem: @Cullen328: I'd love some feedback on that. --CosmicAdventure (talk) 02:14, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't take my comment out of context. I was responding to an editor who said we don't know that this incident is terrorism. But when someone drives a truck through a bike lane on purpose, comes out shouting Allahu Akbar and carries a gun (fake or not) that most certainly makes it terrorism, which is all I said. That doesn't make me a racist or an alt-right crank. Sir Joseph (talk) 02:17, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please go away. The topic is closed, I was warned. Done. I've asked the two admins who warned me specifically about the comment which had concerned me. That's all. Bye now. --CosmicAdventure (talk) 02:18, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That discussion is getting out of hand and probably needs to be hatted, which I cannot do as I am INVOLVED. But your comments were on an altogether different level and constituted a direct and personal attack on another editor that was intentionally very offensive. That is crossing the line. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:19, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ad Orientem: Ok, so what should I do? I considered those comments to be (am I allowed to say racist anymore?) generalizations. If I can't call the editor out on it, then fine, but then what? Check my history, you'll find I don't run around warring with people. --

CosmicAdventure (talk) 02:22, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

CosmicAdventure, I have nothing to say about the content issue, and will not get involved in that. This is about you thinking that it is OK to call your fellow editor a "racist" and an "alt-right crank". You are simply not allowed to insult other editors like that because those are clear personal attacks that violate policy. So cease and desist, and debate the content in a civil fashion. Discuss content not contributors. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:25, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What he said^^^^. Try a civil discussion on a talk page. If that fails then you can take it to ANI. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:27, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I called it "racist diatribe" which I guess was unacceptable, fine. Ok, fine. In fact, sorry. So when someone posts something that appears racist to me, what's the correct course of action? If I can't say "kind sir, that remark is racist diatribe" then what is the process? That's all I'm trying to get to now. I guess the users talk page then, followed by AN/I? --CosmicAdventure (talk) 02:28, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be acceptable to leave comments on random admins talk pages asking them for their opinion? --CosmicAdventure (talk) 02:29, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have just posted a message requesting admin attention at ANI. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:35, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I saw. I don't expect it'll go well for me. Thanks though. Can you take a look at WT:ITN section Adding link to WP:ITN/C on T:ITN? It'd be nice to see that pushed through at least as a trial before I'm T-banned. --CosmicAdventure (talk) 02:38, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a TBan in your immediate future unless there is something I'm missing here. You saw something you strongly disagreed with and got into it with another editor. It happens. If we TBanned everyone who ever popped their cork the place would shut down. Just don't make a habit out of it. And I really would encourage you to revisit some of your comments and maybe strike the ones that are over the top. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:45, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you... -Ad Orientem (talk) 03:05, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A cup of tea for you!

Thank you for providing thorough and well-explained reviews of Trial of Ratko Mladić through the recent ITN/C process. --LukeSurl t c 16:31, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

I just thanked you for bravely re-opening the Kathy Griffin item snow-closed after 14 minutes last june. I was thinking of asking your views on re-opening the current Akihito abdication nom, but your experience with Kathy Griffin is discouraging, and I've already had enough hassle on the Pakistan terrorism nom to do me for at least one week. I was going to correct the misspelling of Akihito's name in the nom section title, but I decided to leave it there as a silent comment on how much consideration the item really got. I may or may not want to send you more in a private message - I'll let you know here if I do. Tlhslobus (talk) 20:34, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Tlhslobus: Welcome to ITN! My previous account is dead and buried over a feud at ITN/C. Try not to get too mired in "what we post/don't post". I take my guidance from WP:ITN#Purpose. Good luck! If you're ever state-side, first pint is on me. --CosmicAdventure (talk) 01:08, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the pint offer, but I don't expect my finances will allow me a trip across the pond anytime soon :( Tlhslobus (talk) 02:51, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
