Tiger Canyons Project

[edit]

That project you saw about Tigers hunting down wildebeest in Africa is the Tiger Canyons project. That project is also mentioned on the tiger page as controversial Siberian/bengal crossbred tiger project, you must understand that the tigers in that project are not pure and are siberian/bengal hybrids, up till now, those tigers have not been released. —Preceding unsigned comment added by China's Tiger (talkcontribs) 07:49, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Save China's Tigers

[edit]

Hello there, I am a Member of Save China's Tigers and i have seen your edit on the Tigers page, and i would like to tell you that the South China Tigers have not been introduced to live blue wildebeests yet. And now the main objective of the Organisation is to breed the tigers, in fact they haven't hunted for a long time, so next time please do not edit the part on Save China's Tigers unneccesarily, thank you.

"unnecessary baggage"?

[edit]

your most recent edit at Zoroastrianism, like those you made before you created a user account will be reverted again.

Your repeated attempts to dislodge that sentence put you on a rather weak footing, but I suspect that you are not aware that - if you have a point/reason/objection to that sentence - then you need to talk about it. We are all (well mostly ;) reasonable people here, so use reason to make your point. Perhaps that sentence has a fault, and noone has noticed. If so, talk. For instance, at Talk:Zoroastrianism -> "unnecessary baggage"?. Thanks. -- Fullstop 00:24, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

California sea lion

[edit]

Thanks for nominating the above article at Featured article candidates. It is a good article but doesn't quite meet FA standards: the lead is a little too short and it could do with some more footnotes. Also, there is a mechanism for nominating articles; rather than adding the nomination text directly to the Featured article candidates page, a separate page should be created: instructions are here. Gorilla page

[edit]

Good work changing and rearranging this page; however, I pulled the videos off. Perhaps there could be a link to those in See Also or something, but the way they appear takes up a lot of space and the videos themselves aren't all that informative, particularly since they show gorillas in an amusement park.Bob98133 (talk) 17:47, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It just seems intrusive - maybe it's just me. If you haven't already, I'll revert it back with a note to comment on Talk page if there are other opinions. Thanks Bob98133 (talk) 18:16, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bobisbob! Thanks for your note. I looked over the Zebra article briefly (though I'm not an expert) and it really looks pretty good all around - I know I learned a lot! I can give it a more thorough reading as soon as I get a chance - though it might not be too soon. A general guideline is to present information that is generally valid for the group the article is devoted to, things that distinguish it from other groups of organisms at a similar taxonomic level, and leave the details for the species articles. However, since "Zebra" is a high-profile article and likely the only stop a reader might make in acquiring general knowledge about them, it is probably good to at least touch on the range of behaviors shown by the various species, with (hopefully) greater detail in the subarticles. Leopard image

[edit]

Try another image name; the previous one was too general and such it conflicted with another image (probably on Commons or something--whatever). Try re-uploading the file to Image:MacOSXLeopard.jpg.--HereToHelp (talk to me) 00:17, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, wait…I do a lot of work with Macintosh and so I thought you were referring to Mac OS X v10.6 "Leopard" (*headslap*). I'll take care of this and give you the new image page in just a moment…--HereToHelp (talk to me) 00:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I understand what's going on now. You're image is on the Wikimedia commons, which should show up here on Wikipedia--except there's this darn book cover on Wikipedia blocking it. There's no easy way to move images, so I uploaded the animal pic to Image:Leopard green branch.jpg. I gave a link to the Commons page, and while I explained that it's not really a duplicate image on the local page, if anybody gives you grief over it just send them to Image:Leopard.jpg or myself.--HereToHelp (talk to me) 01:18, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just copy the image to your computer and re-upload it to Wikipedia under another file name. This template will be helpful: {{NowCommonsThis}}.--HereToHelp (talk to me) 03:12, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As for the zebra, you should assume copyright unless it's explicitly stated that it isn't. You can write to the copyright owner and ask him/her/them to clarify the license or release it under a license we can use. Wikipedia does not accept licenses exclusively for Wikipedia; it must be available for all to use. See Wikipedia:Copyrights#Image_guidelines.--HereToHelp (talk to me) 21:51, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, give credit where credit is due. It might be nice to post the emails on the image description page so the copyright can be as clear as possible (you can censor your own email address if you like). Upload it and give it the proper copyright tag (he did specify a specific license, right?)--HereToHelp (talk to me) 03:11, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but unless an image is obviously out of copyright (older than 70 years or so), then we must know the copyright. Sorry.--HereToHelp (talk to me) 17:50, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you can prove it's PD, mark it as such and move on. If you can't, the other places you saw it are probably using it illegally.--HereToHelp (talk to me) 03:45, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Buttocks

[edit]

Finally! Thanks for finding a good example of female buttocks. Might be handy to crop the image slightly to make it the same size as the blokes. Thank you! Gillyweed (talk) 03:35, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You need to have the email permission confirmed through a system of volunteers called OTRS. They have instructions for the proper email template to have the owner use, and then you forward the email to OTRS. You'll have to upload the image and follow the steps at our sister project of Wikimedia Commons. Unfortunately I do not think you can do this anywhere else. Read more here. However, I will say that I don't think it's worth the trouble for an image with a huge signature on it like that one. It's not appropriate for the encyclopedia. Mammal collab

[edit]

OK, I'll set this up here - feel free to nominate and foraward to any other editor interested in furry critters. We'll see how it flies and I'll drop a note in the signpost.

Nominating key articles is ok, even if you can't work on them. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:08, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Partly, you did seem to be interested in a number of mammal articles so I thought I'd alert you. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 03:00, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The idea for nominating is an article which is quite big and important, and, with some work, might be able to pass FAC. All the articles need varying amounts of work. Some only a little bit and some a lot. In these situations it is often tricky to strike a balance between a lot (when people lose interest before it is ready to nominate) or a little. Have a look at each entry. All need references from Reliable Sources entered, and many need alot more. Polar Bear looks most popular and is not too far off FAC but has sections nearly empty. Spotted Hyena is more complete but needs copyediting and referencing too. Enthusiasm seems to drive this mostly though, and interest in the article is of top importnace. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:41, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, funny, that didn't come up on my watchlist. OK, I'll have a look. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:33, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Orcafeedseal.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Orcafeedseal.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We requires this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Copyrighted images

[edit]

Hi Bob. I removed Image:LionChaseZebra.jpg‎ from the Lion article because its description indicates that it is a commercial, copyrighted photo. I also noticed that Image:Derriere.jpg‎ also appears to be from a copyrighted source. In order to use these images we must actually have evidence that they have been released by the copyright holder under a free license. This can be done either on the source website (e.g. Don Getty putting a notice on his website that this image is released under Creative Commons), or by the copyright holder sending an email to permissions@wikimedia.com. If either of these things has been done, please update the images to indicate that. Otherwise, I'm afraid the images will have to be deleted. Cheers, Kla’quot (talk | contribs) 09:05, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Orcafeedseal.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Orcafeedseal.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Kla’quot (talk | contribs) 04:28, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bobisbob, This is a lovely picture and I would be sad to see it go. However we have to make sure that it is indeed free to use. Kla’quot (talk | contribs) 04:28, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Public domain means that the picture is not protected by copyright: either the copyright has expired (many countries impose a term of 70 years after the author's death), or it is legally exempt from copyright (usually due to being made by the country's government - different countries have different laws about it), or the author has explicitly declared that he releases it into public domain, allowing anybody to use it for whatever purpose. An image cannot be assumed to be in public domain just because it has been circulating in public for some time (perhaps technically against the law). Do you know the original source and author of the image, and is there any evidence that the author either died 70+ years ago, or actually released it into public domain (or that it is in public domain for other reason, see Wikipedia:Public domain for more details)? In particular, if the image is a screenshot from a relatively recently made movie, it can be safely assumed that it almost certainly is NOT in public domain. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 13:36, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Bobisbob, Unless the website you quote as having given permission to use the image via CC can show provenence to the copyright of the image, it should be removed. Copyright of imagery from the BBC Living planet series remains with the BBC NHU. SammytheSeal (talk) 15:05, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll start up a game plan on the talk page. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion discussions

[edit]

Bob,

I have nominated several images that you uploaded for deletion: Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2008 February 15. In each of these cases, I have seen no evidence that the owner of the photo released it under a free license. If you have evidence that a free license exists, this is a good time to present it. I have to emphasize that Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, both for legal reasons and because it is essential for keeping a good relationship with the photographer community. Best wishes, Kla’quot (talk | contribs) 05:45, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. If an image is under a free license, it is best to upload it to Wikimedia Commons anyway (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) instead of to the English Wikipedia. That way it will be available to use in other projects. Cheers, Kla’quot (talk | contribs) 06:15, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re:photos

[edit]

Pretty much any photo taken by an employee of the federal government is in the public domain, but it may depend for resources such as the Smithsonian. I'd suggest giving WP:PDI a thorough read. Hope that helps, VanTucky 22:55, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not. VanTucky 23:30, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not unless they specifically say that they are in the public domain or under an appropriate Creative Commons license. Remember that the phrase, "this photo is public" does not mean it is in the public domain. Basically, assume that photos on websites and in publications are under copyright unless they clearly say otherwise. VanTucky 23:38, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's a guide to getting images from Flickr on Wikimedia Commons. Flickr photos should be uploaded there, so if you don't have a Commons account I would suggest making one. Flickr is usually a very good place to look, but you have to be careful to make sure you got the right CC license. I would suggest reading up at Commons, and using their Flinfo tool that grabs all the necessary info for you. VanTucky 20:57, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some advice

[edit]

I notice you moved infanticide to Human Infanticide. When considering making moves like this, please discuss them on the talk page first as they are likely to be controversial. It also seems somewhat pointless to change the name if infanticide is just going to redirect there anyway (the old name becomes a redirect to the new when you move a page); if you were to move it the old page would have to become a disambiguation which gives the reader the option of going to human infanticide or infanticide (zoology), though I suspect most people would be looking for the former (most general encyclopedias don't even have an article on infanticide in animals (nor did Wikipedia until I started one)), hence leaving it at its current name (there is a hatnote, after all) would be best. In this case the title should be human infanticide, not Human Infanticide as well. A lot of new editors, myself (formerly) included, tend to get this wrong. Articles, headings within articles, and words in general are generally not capitalized unless they should be for some reason, e.g. they are a proper noun. See naming conventions for more on this. If you do move pages in future, also ensure you fix any double redirects.

By the way, when uploading free images, e.g. those in public domain, creative commons etc, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. Just create an account here and link it at your user page, then all projects and users can access them from one central place.

There is much to be learned in the way of wiki-lore, but I hope you keep at it. Richard001 (talk) 00:50, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Spideylizard.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Spideylizard.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Patagonia images

[edit]

Hello Bob, I see you've uploaded Image:Orcafeed.jpg with a fair use rationale. This is, if I recall, the third time you've uploaded a shot from the same BBC documentary and the umpteenth time you've added it to the Orca article. You asked me earlier if it would be fair use and I said no, and there has been extensive discussion on Talk:Orca about why the picture cannot stay in the article, so please stop trying to add it. If you continue to re-add this picture you may be blocked, which means that for a time you will not be able to edit Wikipedia. I think you might be having difficulty understanding our image policies. I will try to help you find you a mentor, but before that gets off the ground please consider holding off uploading images. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bootlegpete.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bootlegpete.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it may be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:55, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Electro2.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Electro2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Gobby.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Gobby.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Your edit may well be fine, but I just took out because 1. the grammar was not up-to-par and 2. other sources were removed. Also for the 'temporary' part Im just restoring a previously sourced edit that did have the word temporary. If you find its not so, then please go ahead and edit this out BUT with sources. Lihaas (talk) 11:37, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough with the temporary edit. My bad there. But on the other part, there are citations that ought not to be removed (except with extenuating circumstances). You can add counter views but you must discuss why you think a source should be removed.
Im not going to undo the edits (http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Nazism&diff=231253175&oldid=231210555), but I leave it to you better judgment to incorporate the sources removed. Or if not, then to discuss why its unworthy. Lihaas (talk) 05:15, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Whitesharkseal5.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Closedmouth (talk) 09:17, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The file File:Horse9898.gif has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
