Urban cottagecore
[edit]Urban cottagecore is an internet aesthetic that derives from Cottagecore, in an urban context. It still keeps the usual precepts of Cottagecore, such as food self-sufficiency by gardening and cooking, garment-making, crafts, and some of its sense of interior design, while romanticizing living in an urban or almost urban context.
Descriptions
[edit]Overall, like many other internet aesthetics, the Urban cottagecore aesthetic abides to the philosophy of Epicureanism, in its research of pleasure, confort, and overall sense of visual style. It is also closely related to Hedonism, in its seeking of self-indulging pleasures, such as baking pastries, spending time in beautiful gardens, etc.
Values
[edit]One of the benefits of the internet aesthetic and related lifestyle is, perhaps, its sustainability. As an example, people who grow a small percentage of the food, or who sew a small percentage of their clothes, break the cycle of hyper-consumption in wealthier countries. Encouraging urban horticulture, even on a small scale, is one way to promote a sustainable diet to people of various socioeconomic background. The same principle applies to other applications, such as sustainable fashion, sustainable living, and energy efficiency, starting from each person’s home.
