Please give me a chance
I'm currently in the process of re-doing this article. If I've done something wrong that has led you here (categories, templates, or coding, for instance), feel free to fix it but please tell me why here or in the Edit Description box or on my Talk page, so that I will understand the reason and know for future edits.

I've been a minor Wiki-editor for a long time but never done anything this advanced or that required so much effort. I'm blundering my way through it on my own and doing reasonably well (I think) at finding help resources along the way but I'm trying to make Wiki better and welcome any suggestions or tips you have.

Thanks in advance!

Dogs

[edit]

If you have cancer, diabetes, or epilepsy, your dog might be the first to know. Studies have shown that dogs can be trained to sniff out cancers of the lung, breast, skin, bladder and prostate. Researchers suspect the canines are picking up on extraordinarily faint scents given off by the abnormal cells.
Dogs are also being increasingly used as service animals for people with diabetes, whose health can be harmed when their blood sugar peaks or drops. Specially trained dogs can detect the scent of these fluctuations (sweet for high blood sugar, acidic for low) and alert their owners before they even feel symptoms.
Most mysterious of all are scattered reports that dogs can predict an epileptic seizure 45 minutes before it begins. No one knows what the dogs might be picking up on, but theories range from an unknown smell to subtle behavioral changes.

Coping with sudden-onset Articulation Disorder

You'd have to bring a pen and notepad or a laptop everywhere you went. If the pen runs out of ink, did you think to bring a spare? If the pencil tip breaks, did you bring a sharpener? Don't lose the pen or spill any food or drink on that awkward notepad that you aren't used to lugging around or you won't be able to write on the paper. Bring it everywhere you go and don't leave it at home, or in your car, or at work, or church, or your fifth period classroom, hallways, or the lunchroom, or the bathroom, or... .

If you used a laptop instead, then you'd have to carry that heavy, semi-fragile technology around. Are you a fast typer? Remember to bring the power cord so you can keep the battery charged. Hopefully, the laptop isn't slow to process your commands and the nearest electrical outlet is conveniently located for you. Don't spill any food or drink on that awkward laptop you aren't used to lugging around or you'll destroy it. Bring it everywhere you go and don't leave it at home, or in your car, or at work, or church, or your fifth period classroom, hallways, or the lunchroom, or the bathroom, or... .

Size-structured population

[edit]

It is known that individuals in a biological population differ with regard to their physiological and behavioral characteristics, and, therefore, in the way they interact with their environment. As a result, vital processes such as birth, death, growth, metabolism, resource consumption, and so on, vary among individuals. The vital rates of individuals ultimately determine the dynamics of the entire population and how those dynamics are affected by the physical and biological environment. Therefore, accurate models of population level dynamics require a connection to individual level vital rates. One such connection is provided by so-called “size-structured” population models.

Central Heterochromia Iridum

[edit]
Example of central heterochromia showing a gold to blue iris

Central heterochromia is an eye condition where there are two colors in the same iris; the central (pupillary) zone of the iris is a different color than the mid-peripheral (ciliary) zone, with the true iris color being the outer color. [7]

Example of central heterochromia showing an orange to blue iris

Eye color is determined primarily by the concentration and distribution of melanin within the iris tissues. Though humans do not yet fully understand all the processes involved, scientist do know that eye color is determined by multiple genes but can be altered by acquired characteristics and environment, such as injury, disease, or diet.[8] The appearance of English musician David Bowie's left eye has been changed because of injury and his permanently dilated pupil has given him . Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page).

The human iris can be seen in a number of various colors. There are three true colors in human eyes that determine the outward appearance: brown, yellow, and grey. The amount of each color an individual has determines the appearance of the eye color.[9]

Eyes displaying central heterochromia are often referred to as "cat eyes" because of their multi-colored iris. Central heterochromia appears to be prevalent in irises containing low amounts of melanin.[10]

It is both common and normal for pale irises to have an orange or brownish tint and brown irises to be darker (lipochrome) around the pupil (pupillary zone) that can range from faint to prominent. This, and hazel eyes, are not instances of central heterochromia.

In people with blue or green eyes, it is both common and normal for the color of the iris to have an orange or brownish tint (lipochrome) around the pupil (pupillary zone) that can range from faint to prominent. This, and hazel eyes, are not instances of central heterochromia.

be slightly darker around the outer edge and

However, there have been many supposed cases that some people claim themselves to have such heterochromia when they've got a brown center. This is natural, it's referred to as lipochrome, which is quite common in green and blue eyes. Central heterochromia can be determined if the other color in the iris takes up at least an entire line from the ellipse to the pupil.

A famous case of a person with central heterochromia was Baroness Rozsika Edle von Wertheimstein, whose daughter wrote: "She was a very beautiful woman... She had dark, dark brown eyes, but each eye had a purple ring to it, about a quarter of an inch of purple around these dark brown eyes."[11]
