Walter Waddington
[edit]- ... that French General Walter Waddington (pictured) was born in Ireland and began his military career as an enlisted soldier?

- New enough, long enough, well-referenced. As most references are foreign-language, unable to check for close paraphrasing. However, the hook is rather dull. Perhaps you could cite something anecdotal about his service, quote someone who talks about him, or write something hooky about the type/variety of attendees at his funeral? - Thanks for your review. How about:
- ALT1: ... that 14 French generals attended the funeral of Walter Waddington (pictured)?
- ALT2: ... that American Belgian and British soldiers attended the funeral of Walter Waddington (pictured), along with an entire French cavalry brigade?
- ALT3: ... that Walter Waddington's (pictured) death in 1920 was caused by his refusal to leave the frontlines to seek treatment for a disease in 1918?
- Thanks for the alts – they're very good. I personally prefer ALT2 or ALT1, but I'll leave it to the closing administrator to decide. Offline and foreign-language hook refs AGF. QPQ done. Note on the image: It is marked as public domain in the United States, but has not yet been transferred to Commons and may or may not be public domain in other countries. Good to go.
