SLC radar
[edit]- ... that British Army researchers developed SLC radar in their spare time after they grew tired of watching how "searchlight beams swung wildly about the sky but rarely found and held a target"?
...? Source: Directly quoted in the body, about 1/2 way in.

- New. Long enough. Reliable sources used. Though link not provided for verification, citation is directly quoted from a book, page number provided. Images used are public domain. Ready for DYK. Shivashree (talk) 18:22, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
- I pulled this one from the queue because a concern was raised that the article name does not conform to the article lead; also I was unable to determine what the correct name of the technology was from looking at the sources. Pinging Maury Markowitz. Gatoclass (talk) 08:55, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Gatoclass: Page 45 of Army Radar has "Searchlight Control Radar AA No.2 Mark 6". The "Radar" in this caption is part of the AA, not the Searchlight Control" - it would officially be Radar, AA, No. 2. Like most military equipment, the official name and "actual name" are often variations, and in this case further confused by the renaming exercise the Army carried out in 1943. - Oh I see what you're talking about, it seems another editor inserted a space that's not supposed to be there. Fixed. Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:23, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- No that's not what I'm talking about. The article is called "Searchlight Control radar" but the article starts "Searchlight Control, SLC for short ..." Is the topic "Searchlight Control radar" or just "Searchlight Control"? Gatoclass (talk) 13:42, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Gatoclass: Go read it again :-) Someone else changed it, I changed it back. Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:59, 20 January 2018 (UTC)

The Rambling Man, since you were the one to initially raise this issue, perhaps you can do a better job of explaining it than I can. Gatoclass (talk) 20:20, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- This was the version I read and the difference between title and lead was confusing. I'm glad it's all been cleared up now, I'm sure. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:58, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Have I missed something? That version and the current one look identical to me. Gatoclass (talk) 21:11, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, you have. It's a common problem at DYK. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:31, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

No, I missed something. The "radar" in the article title is not part of the official name, I put it there for clarity. I've done the same on a number of other articles, including some FAs. Maury Markowitz (talk) 21:17, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, it looks like TRM's objection was that the earlier version had "Search Light" as two separate words, I thought his objection was to something else. Anyhow, now that that's been sorted, I guess we can restore this to prep. I will have to look it over once more before doing that though, and it's going to have to wait a little longer I'm afraid as I'm about to log off. Gatoclass (talk) 23:11, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
