Doubt on the information

[edit]

In the last part, if Zhuang got married again in 1987, how was it possible he had to write to Jiang Zemin to ask for permission. In 1987, Jiang was merely the party chief in Shanghai, and no one predicted he would ascend to a national leader. He had no power nor relevance to deal with such matter. The whole statement sounds like a story to me. Ramtears (talk) 12:33, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References needed

[edit]

The article was tagged as lacking references, but only one section, which I have commented out, lacked them. I have removed the page level tag and ask that editors add tags to specific claims if they want references for them. μηδείς (talk) 20:59, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here is an itemized list of every statement STILL in this article that needs a reference of some sort, with a rationale as to why it needs it. The refimprove tag is still needed:
  • "He also won numerous champion titles at various other regional, national and international table tennis events, and the number of his championship titles exceeds all those won by the other members of the Chinese national team combined. No other single table tennis player has ever won so many championship titles." Which titles? Where is a reference that backs up that he won more titles than anyone else?
  • Several statements regarding his courtship and marriage to his first wife are entirely unreferenced. Where does this information come from?
  • There's a ton of information about his second wife, including her hysterectomy? which lacks any reference at all. If either of these two women are alive today, this article represents a HUGE BLP violation. Even if they aren't, information like this needs direct citations.
  • "In 1973, Zhuang Zedong became a favorite of Jiang Qing, wife of Mao Zedong and leader of the Cultural Revolution. He was named, sequentially, to become a representative of the 10th Plenary Session of the Communist Party of China, a member of the Central Committee, vice party secretary, secretary and director of the National Sports Committee." Really? According to whom was he a favorite of Mao's wife? Where is the references to support his appointment to these positons? What's the connection to receiving these positions to the thesis statement of this paragraph regarding his relationship with Mao's wife. Such connections and statements need sources.

If you removed every statement which is unreferenced, the article would probably be below the minimum length to post in ITN. The article really needs help! I believe this person is notable enough to make the ITN recent death's ticker. I would be embarassed for Wikipedia if an article in this state made the main page, however. --Jayron32 21:18, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Very enthusiastic, now please share that enthusiasm with all the other articles featured on the main page, for your own consistency. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 21:24, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Whether I do or not, that doesn't actually make this article any better. --Jayron32 21:30, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, but it would make your behaviour more understandable, that you wish for all articles featured on the main page to be tagged as such, not just this one. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:32, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Look, this isn't about me. If you object to my behavior, take it to WP:ANI. If you have suggestions for improving this article, make it here. --Jayron32 21:34, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest we remove all [citation needed] tagged paras and run what's left at ITN or else it won't be ITN. Simple. And I think you should apply your standards uniformly, but of course, that's a pipe dream and not relevant in any way. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:39, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I do apply standards uniformly. You have presented no evidence that I don't except with the unrealistic claim that before this article's faults be noted, I would somehow have to have first noted problems with every other article to appear on the main page. When I see problems, I note them. I have a limited amount of time, but when I find problems, I note the problems I find. You'll notice that this is neither the first, nor only, article up for ITN that I have noted similar objections to, and it will not be the last. If you look at the ITNC page, you'll find several other similar objections I have raised. You'll also note that some of those problems got fixed. Again, if you believe I have acted wrongly, please start a thread at WP:ANI. If you have references to the problematic statements in this article, provide them. Attempting to claim that this article is good enough for whatever reason you are claiming it (I still can't follow your logic) then I don't know what to make of that. --Jayron32 21:51, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The following claims have been removed from the article:diff. They may be restorable using Chinese language sources or searches under Chuang Tse-tung. I am removing the article-level tag. μηδείς (talk) 01:33, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
