Parm_lee
[edit]I have spelled it Parmalee due to it being spelled that way in both the authoritative Crouch and Howard biographies of the Wright brothers. I notice in the NY Times reference that it is spelled both ways within the newspaper story. Is there an ironclad source that overrules the Crouch and Howard books? DonFB 03:18, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- "Parmelee" is right, and it has the most google hits. The NYT may be an artifact of the OCR. All the old articles are just raw OCR without any correction. I have double checked with the Washington Post and they use the "Parmelee" spelling. I will work on a more comprehensive bibliography from the newspaper archives as soon as I finish the two I am working on tonight. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 05:16, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Notes about the fatalities
[edit]The symbol † next to names of men who died in crashes gives the impression they were killed while performing with the team. The article explains clearly that only two died while on the team, but this list could easily give a reader the wrong idea. Maybe two kinds of symbols could be used: one for Johnstone and Hoxey with a note that they died performing for the team; and another symbol for the others, who died in crashes later, after they were off the team and it no longer existed. - A short time later, I made the change. DonFB (talk) 10:34, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
