[edit]

Isn't the vocal style the other way around? With Jordan Billie having the high high voice?

Definitely not. Blilie does the low parts and a lot of the screaming. On the recent single, Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck, that's Jordan singing "These tire tracks..." in a kind of low muttering. Johnny is the one squealing "The car accident, the skin graft treatment..." insanely high. Stephen 14:10, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mathcore????

[edit]

The Blood Brothers are absouloutly NOT mathcore. For one, I hear little to no metal influence. Also, there music is not technical at all. There music is played at a fairly high speed compared to mainstream pop/rock, but compared to other punk bands, they have a slower speed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.163.141.7 (talk) 04:08, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New album?

[edit]

It appears on their website that the Blood Brothers have started recording a new album. Does anybody have any more information about this? It should probably be mentioned in the article somewhere.

I added a little bit of information to the releases section about it; that's all I've been able to find on the Internet about the new album. Chris Berry 18:03, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The recently released EP (Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck) comes with a sticker inside. The back of the sticker says "NEW CD COMING: FALL 2006" So at least we got a release date... 75.4.198.45 16:00, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have just added the title for new album to the discography as reported on billboard/drowned in sound/others Jammus 13:37, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Original research

[edit]

This article is awful, it is not at all scientific and includes a lot of original research. It used to include many blatant opinions but I removed some of them. Someone please cite this article or remove the statements with "Citation Needed" next to them. --Stellis 05:01, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am confused as to why you have some things that can be noticed by actually listening to their albums (such as the evolution of the higher-persons voice) marked for needing citation. The idea you have makes it seem like you would mark trivial words such as "the" and "is" as needing citation. For example, look at Underoath. Not every other phrase is cited. I think your demands would lead to a case of over-citation. --Resonant0ne 15:28, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Guess what, buddy - this is an article about a band, it's not like you can do scientific research about it. I removed most of your citation needed markings, because it interrupts the flow of the argument, and even if all the citations were made, they would be pretty much worthless, citing the same articles over and over. I cleaned it up and left only a couple of places where citations are needed, places where it would help the article to have some background. In the future, there should be discussion here on the talk page about it before making such drastic changes to an article. Chris Berry 18:00, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Scientific research can be done about anything, and the word scientific as I intended it means that it is all true and verifiable. Wikipedia says about original research:
Original research is a term used on Wikipedia to refer to material added to articles by Wikipedia editors that has not been published already by a reputable source. It includes unpublished theories, data, statements, concepts, arguments, and ideas
That means that you cannot make any disputable claims about a band (and yes, it is very hard to cite articles about bands). This includes discussing the genre and making statements that are opinion rather than fact (The band makes wide use of...). Also "Things that can be noticed by actually listening to the album" are original research because you yourself are listening to the album. --Stellis 07:10, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Much agreed, this article is very poorly written and largely comprised of 'original research'. --Furste 20:15, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Homosexuality

[edit]

I have read on the Internet that a member or members of the Blood Brothers (possibly Jordan?) is/are openly gay. Can anyone confirm this, and if it is confirmed, make an addition to the article?

Jordan currently has a girlfriend. He is not gay.

I dont know how old this discussion is but I do believe at least one member is openly gay. See this old interview - it seems to suggest it.
http://www.punknews.org/article.php?sid=10623&mode=thread&order=0
especially this

When we interviewed you last year, you mentioned how on the Glassjaw tour, you guys encountered a bit of homophobia...

Yeah.

I'm pretty sure it's the drummer, looking at their set - one of Mark's drums has the gay pride rainbow around it. Not that we can use that as a source, but I can't find anything on the internet to site it.

Its not really important if anyone is gay. Unless they say it in an interview, it doesn't belong on the article, and even then, just a line in the trivia section. Whoops, yeah I said this Olliemilne 00:33, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is likely that the homophobia they experianced was based more on audiences' reaction to their appearances than the band's actual sexual orientation. I have personally witnessed Johnny being heckled and accussed of being gay (which he isn't). The following bit from an interview with Jordan seems to go along with my line of thinking:

"Of course. You know, it’s like when we did that tour with Glassjaw last year, I was in awe of some of the mentality of the kids going to the shows. It was sickening. And one night I was pretty wasted or something and I was like I love you guys and I love being on tour with you guys but your fans are fucking awful. Because every third night or so you would hear “get off the stage fag” it was horrible, like the lowest common denominator you could ever imagine. And the way that we deal with that is, we don’t take shit. We’ll flip shit back, embarrass people and make them feel stupid. We’ll like blow kisses, rub our crotches even more, hump each other, whatever, suck on the microphone. You know all the stuff we normally do when we play on our own we just exaggerate it. Or just stare at kids. When they are talking shit you just stare at them, and it forces you to confront them personally. You know we will always confront it head on, there’s no place for it. Bands that don’t stand up have no right playing in a band if they are not going to confront that mentality. "

On Johnny's official myspace page and his partner with Crystal City Clothing's, Amy's myspace it is alluded that they are married. see these http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=3141813 Johnny's and http://www.myspace.com/amycarlsen (I wouldn't post these pages for wikipedia use, but this I feel is relevant to prove their marriage)

I've heard that Jordan is dating a girl named Zoe that accompanies him on tours. As for the rest I doubt it. I think the above article is mostly about the bad rap about it that they get. I've seen them perform live and while it seems like they might be, I highly doubt it. But I don't think they mind it so much or that it's so terrible for them. 76.182.228.118 20:56, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, he's dating Zoe Verkuylen, formerly of The Red Light Sting.63.3.7.129 21:09, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck

[edit]

It's now an EP as well as a single so I removed the redirect, someone should make a page on it.

"is a vegan"

[edit]

Johnny Whitney. I'm gonna change it to "is vegan". it's not like he is a totally different animal because he is vegan.

I suggest that we leave it as "is a vegan" because it's a description of a personality trait and not a physical trait (such as "Johnny Whitney is skinny") or consumable product (like vegan pizza or vegan shoes). When describing a trait of a person we usually use a or an (as in "a democrat" or "a musician"). You wouldn't say "Johnny Whitney is musician" just like you wouldn't say "Johnny Whitney is meat-eater".torq 17:46, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's because "musician" is strictly a noun while "vegan" can function as a substantive adjective- i.e., one that can stand on its own as a noun. 99.251.230.51 (talk) 22:49, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Characters

[edit]

This is a really interesting point - but needs cleaning up before it can be put back on the main page.
In the first three albums, and fantasy tale of piano island with many characters is incorperated via metaphors. The story starts at 'this adultery is ripe', and ends at 'burn, piano island, burn'. Somebody has yet to document the entire story in lamen's terms.

Trivia

[edit]

Add back when somebody knows the song -

  • The song "Kiss of the Octopus" contains a breif sample of a Nine Inch Nails song.

--Sharonlees 18:20, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The song is "Perfect Drug." The sampling is discussed in this Pitchfork review. --Giraffelove 07:38, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Acts toured with

[edit]

Do we need this long a list? The Blood Brothers don't ever seem to stop touring so it could get a little ridiculous. It is even need at all?Jammus 14:47, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

-Yeah, I've been watching this list get longer and longer for about a year now. Its pretty pointless too, you could write a similarly huge list for any band. I think the lists original intent was to show how they toured with acts who you normally wouldn't expect them to tour with due to a percieved vast difference in style but over time people have carried on adding their favourite bands and the list is redundant. I'm cool with removing it, I'll do it at some point if noone else does. Unless anyone can come up with a good reason to keep it... Olliemilne 18:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Johnny Whitney & Amy Carlsen married

[edit]

Couldn't find any other mention of Whitney and Carlsen being married except for the article itself. Change back if anyone knows better and add source. Ta xxxJammus 10:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- I know for a fact they're married, this month's Rock Sound magazine makes reference to "his wife amy carlsen". I'm not really sure how to go about adding magazine based sources on wikipedia, if you do its Rock Sound, Issue 93 (Feb 2007) page 39. This is also the first real confirmation I've seen of them being married, but I've heard people online refer to them as such for a few months. At some point I'll learn how to source this properly and then readd it if noone does it first. Olliemilne 16:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ooooh. My housemate has been late in buying Rock Sound this month. So it's his fault I deleted it :) Not sure how best to cite it. Is [Cite Journal] correct? Jammus 10:22, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's on both their myspace pages that they're married. see above on homosexuality where i added the links 76.182.228.118 20:58, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

[edit]

How come The Blood Brothers now goes to a disambiguation page where no articles exist with the title 'The Blood Brothers' aside from this one? Can someone point me in the direction of the conversation? Ta Jammus 23:35, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed this. Typing "the blood brothers" links to "blood brothers (disambig.). Details of the request were made here: http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Requested_moves&diff=prev&oldid=127457508 by a red ip-based user and fulfilled by: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Special:Contributions/82.20.52.142 who as you can see, has been a very busy bee in tidying up today. I guess in the end, this disambig. page is somewhat needed, I personally have never seen the play but it is very famous and I guess some people could get the name confused...? What I propose be done is that on the Blood Brothers (disambig.) page, This article is moved to the top of the music list and emboldened, as based on the other music links this page is clearly the most relevant. Although I do think that you could get away with just a link at the top of the page... anyone who made a mistake would soon realise. But for now I guess we can do the disambig thing, I will do it soon if noone else does.

What do you think? Olliemilne 00:25, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just moved the blood brothers to the top of the music section and bolded them. I also asked in the talk page why it was redirected. If noone replies and we both agree (we seem to be the only active users who discuss this page's content) then I think the redirect should be removed and the link at the top of the page changed to a "this is about the band" etc etc. tell me what you think. Olliemilne 00:36, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like the best solution to me Jammus 08:37, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK so apparently I cannot embolden anything that isnt the main focus of the page (which in this case is the phrase "blood brother") and someone says that several of the movies on that list (and there are going to be more added too) are technically called "the blood brothers" but the is a diminutive word in chinese (they're all chinese films apparently, they go crazy for this title it seems) so this isn't the only "the blood brothers" on the list. I dont think changing things back to how they were will do anything, it appears to be wikipedia policy to have things this way and it'll just turn into an edit war. It looks like this article is just going to have to be harder to find. Hopefully anyone looking for this article will be able to wade through all the other stuff. I'm not sure if we can do anything else for now. Olliemilne 18:13, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Arsehat. Oh well. Have done a little disambiguation though the guts of it was already in place. Not convinced about these Chinese films though. They're only AKAs or old titles. Hmmmm. Cheers though OllieJammus 13:07, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lyrical Content Section

[edit]

I added a section in the Crimes article on the lyrical content of the album, and I hope to add such sections to the band's other albums' articles soon, but I'm not particularly happy about the format. I believe this type of section to be important to deciphering the lyrical message of the songs as well as being interesting, but if someone can find a more effective way to format this information or integrate it into the article in another way, that would be really helpful.

Screamo

[edit]

I'd like to add "Screamo" to the genres list. I have a source, and Blood Brothers are in keeping with the first wave of screamo. Aryder779 (talk) 20:27, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your source seems to be dead. I'll leave it for now and check in a few days, but if it's still dead (or the band themselves didn't say it) then I'm going to delete it. Tdogg241 (talk) 01:33, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
UPDATE: OK, the source seems to be working now and the bit about them being screamo was an embellishment by the author, not something the band themselves said. I'm going to delete it now. Also, next time please read the comment that's already in the genre section: "DO NOT change genres; go to the talk page". Tdogg241 (talk) 05:18, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Punk metal? o.0

[edit]

The Blood Brothers are often credited as an [almost only hardcore] band who play hardcore punk with zero metal influence! They definitely don't play punk metal, i've seen no sources. 93.84.12.44 (talk) 20:53, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Crystal City Clothing

[edit]

The crystal city clothing website has been down for a few years. The URL now goes to some christian clothing site. I don't know details about when it went down exactly or if they'd continued the work elsewhere. 155.63.136.32 (talk) 19:24, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sass

[edit]

The Blood Brothers are of the Sass genre, a style of post-hardcore music from the late nineties and early 2000's involving danceable beats, blatant sexuality, and general hardcore stylings. Other bands included Black Cat 13, An Albatross, The Red Light Sting, and Panthers, a project most notable for containing members of Orchid. [1]

I've cited an excellent article on You Don't Need Maps about Sass. I've not got all the information to cite another blog with a good article on this, The Latest Pit Beef, so I'll just post the link. https://thelatestpitbeef.wordpress.com/2017/08/28/the-history-of-sass/

Both places reference an old article on a defunct website called Stuff You Will Hate, which sadly got taken down. However, the first article has a link to an archive of the Sass article specifically. All of the articles specifically cite The Blood Brothers as THE popular Sass act of the early aughts. An actual Wikipedia page on the subgenre should be coming soon, written by a friend of mine.

Your two sources are both blogs which are usually unreliable. Check out the list of reliable sources for music articles at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources. When and if the sass genre is written up in Rolling Stone and Complex magazines then we'll have an article that can survive the deletion process. Ah yes, two sources that don't care in the slightest about hardcore these days. The closest it'll ever get is maybe a punk magazine or Pitchfork. Not like Pitch cares about hardcore anyways. It's also not like there's and entire subreddit dedicated to this. OH WAIT! THERE IS! https://www.reddit.com/r/Whitebelt/
