Noinclude on Infobox
[edit]I noticed the infobox was <noincluded>
. Is that needed? I didn't remove it in case there's a reason, but I think it's just clutter because most pages don't do it that way. Does anyone know if there's a reason? Dukese805 (talk) 21:19, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi User:Dukese805: the reason is so that the infobox does not included in excerpts, i.e. when this article is transcribed elsewhere. It's not visible to the reader so I don't think it's a problem? EMsmile (talk) 11:32, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Back to economics class
[edit]There is no such thing as "sustainable economic growth". Growth of any kind is by definition unsustainable. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 07:23, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- have a look at the article on sustainable development where this tension is discussed... (article needs improvement). EMsmile (talk) 07:46, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed. Extra points for sustainable economic growth linking back to sustainable development. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 13:05, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
SDG Common Agreement
[edit]Hi,Why we're not yet done with all we all want and need to achieve??.Sometimes things and somethings they've delayed by us to take actions as to stop unwanted conflicts, unnecessary spendings, unwanted pregnancies, stop corruptions and fraud, stop spreading illnesses, stop inequalities, solve global social problems and more.Amooketsi SDG suitable Economy that creates work and expand to bring changes on every worker income as we all know that cost of living is everytime the highest crisis that lead to poverty, hunger and lack of unemployment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.114.197.197 (talk) 11:15, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Denialism and criticism
[edit]I was researching for sources linking the SDG criticism with denialist and far-right conspiracy theories for another article, but I find that there's no section about criticism or reception in the article, but it seems that it existed in the past, as seen in the discussion. I think that having such a section with a good summary of who is against and why, should be good for understanding better the topic. Is there any reason for not having it? Theklan (talk) 14:41, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- For reference:
- Theklan (talk) 15:01, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- We do have such a section in the article. You can find this kind of content under "challenges", User:Theklan. EMsmile (talk) 21:35, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
Unsourced paragraph in the lead
[edit]On 1 December, you, User:JD John M. Turner, had added the below paragraph to the lead. However, I have restored the previous version of the lead now because I felt your changes to the lead were not well justified. The lead is meant to be a summary of the article. It is useful to have sources for those statements of the lead that need sources (no sources needed for pure summary statements). Your paragraph is not wrong but it's unclear where it came from. What's the source of it? It reads a bit like "UN speech", was it copied from a UN website? This is the paragraph I mean:
"The SDGs emphasize the indivisibility of sustainable development's social, economic, and environmental dimensions, advocating for inclusive policies and practices at global, national, and local levels. Despite their non-binding nature, the SDGs have influenced global debates, policy agendas, and institutional priorities, though transformative change remains limited. Collaborative financing, technological innovation, and a strengthened global partnership are critical for achieving these ambitious goals by 2030." EMsmile (talk) 21:34, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
Contradiction on 13?: “environmental” v. “planetary?”
[edit]Not sure if it’s a typo? But how can #13 be environment-focused but also encourage consumption/not pursue planetary integrity? Just wondering if it was supposed to be 7,12 and (some other number?). “The SDGs include three environment-focused SDGs, which are Goal 13, 14 and 15 (climate, land and oceans), but there is no overarching environmental or planetary goal. The SDGs do not pursue planetary integrity as such.Other SDGs, which as Goal 7, 12 and 13 ignore the planetary limits and encourage consumption.” 2601:58A:8B83:F170:ADEA:CD51:174:63D7 (talk) 10:22, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for spotting that. The sentence was wrong. I have deleted it now, together with the other edits made by the same user on that day. EMsmile (talk) 11:16, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
Questions about last paragraph of the lead
[edit]Hi User:Tpbradbury you added this paragraph to the lead in March 2024 (in this edit): "Funding remains a critical issue for achieving the SDGs. Significant financial resources would be required worldwide. The United Nations, other international organizations, and national governments are trying to assist with funding efforts. Furthermore, the role of private investment and a shift towards sustainable financing are also essential for realizing the SDGs. Examples of progress from some countries demonstrate that achieving sustainable development through concerted global action is possible.
" I am wondering where this text came from as it has no references and I am not sure if it's a good summary of the content of the main article? For example where in the main text do we talk about "sustainable finance"? Also that last sentences about "Examples of progress from some countries" is rather vague. My suggestion would be to either delete this paragraph or to make it closer to the main text, and to repeat some references from the main text. EMsmile (talk) 12:48, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- For now, I have deleted this sentence as I found it very vague:
The United Nations, other international organizations, and national governments are trying to assist with funding efforts.
- "trying to assist" whom with funding efforts? Which part of the UN is this sentence referring to? EMsmile (talk) 12:55, 7 February 2025 (UTC) - thank you, it doesn't need references as it should summarise the article without adding anything new. I agree to make it closer to the main text. I wouldn't repeat references as it shouldn't be adding anything new. If you think it can be summarised better, then yes change it, Tom B (talk) 13:03, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
Shorten the section on "Details of 17 goals and targets"?
[edit]I am wondering if the section on "Details of 17 goals and targets" needs to be shortened. It was me who originally set it up with those 17 excerpts but looking at it now, I wonder if this is the best solution. A lot of it is very much "UN speech" and is cumbersome to read. Should we perhaps take all that content out and just keep a short section which links readers to the relevant SDG sub-articles? EMsmile (talk) 14:04, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
