Including track listings
[edit]Should a tracklisting for a not individually notable album be included in this discography? Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 14:58, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
Including a track listing is absolutely not a coatrack as the revision note stated. A track listing is immediately relevant to a discography, especially if the individual albums don't have notability. That said, do the individual albums have notability? Should they have their own articles or redirect here? D O N D E groovily Talk to me 01:32, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Individual albums have notability if they charted, were certified, were on a notable label, or were reviewed by someone reputable such as Allmusic. Sticking a random track listing on the article just sticks out like a sore thumb and clutters up the article. It's completely pointless if the album is not individually notable, and there is zero precedent for randomly squeezing a tracklist into the middle of a discography. Does it not look butt ugly to you? That said, I'll start a RFC and see if we can get any traction here. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 14:53, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Comment This doesn't seem to be the best place for this RfC. Would it make more sense at WP:Albums? D O N D E groovily Talk to me 15:29, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- I see quite a lot of merge tags proposing to merge an album that is only a track list to discographies. If all of these are wrong, that's fine, I can just remove them instead. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 15:29, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- An RFC will get the attention of other users to gather their opinion. Other albums have been redirected to discographies (e.g. Doing My Country Thing redirects to Mark Chesnutt discography), but merging the tracklist as well has never been done in those cases. - An artist's discography is supposed to provide an overview of their recordings. Dropping an album's track listing in the middle of a discography, particularly an album with insufficient notablity, places undue weight on the album and, as has been said above, sticks out like a sore thumb and is without precedent. If an album isn't notable enough for a standalone article, its track listing has no place in the artist's discography. Eric444 (talk) 23:13, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Per Eric444's second sentence, it shouldn't be included. It might be a worthwhile goal to eventually list tracks for all albums, but with existing page formatting it looks confusing and draws undue attention to the album. Rivertorch (talk) 05:00, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
