So how often do people actually think bombers were needing to fight off fighter attacks from below while on the final bombing run, or needing to simultaneously fight off attacks from both beams at the same time anyway? Neither of these strike me as serious shortcomings. And they gondola was too cramped to fit a gunner and the bombardier at the same time...and so they just got rid of it entirely in the later torpedo versions? Even though they had no need for a bombardier and the issue wouldn't be relevant anyway? You sure it wasn't more to do with the fact that they aren't very likely to be attacked from below in these types of missions anyway, and the weight and drag savings are more useful? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Idumea47b (talkcontribs) 23:59, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
