[edit]

Saqib, please can you explain this edit in more detail. Are you aware that parliamentary sources are fine for biographies unless you have compelling evidence that the person has lied or there is some sort of typographical error? If any of the sources are unreliable then you need to explain which and why. - Sitush (talk) 08:52, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Sitush: This is a BLP on someone who is holding one of the highest office in an assembly yet there is not a single source cited which is independent of the subject so naturally a tag is warranted here. I don't know for what reason source number 1 is cited. Source number 2 and 3 are same. Source number 4 is no different from source number 2 and 3. Source number 5 is clearly an unreliable source and should be removed outright. Source number 6 is dead and the last source is a press release. I am aware that parliamentary sources are fine and reliable but we should not rely on them to cite each and every bit of information in a BLP for the reason they put at risk the neutrality of the BLP. Quick Google search shows there are plenty of coverage available on the subject in RS so we have no reason no rely on sources affiliated with the subject. --Saqib (talk) 09:19, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. Yes, we can consolidate citations (I will do that) but it doesn't make them unsuitable for use. Yes, sometimes website sources may be dead but that also does not make them unsuitable for use (and we could try to rescue using the Wayback Machine). Great if there are alternate sources out there via Googling - so use them rather than add a tag that is confusing. And it is a confusing tag because it suggests that info is actually unsourced when in fact it is not. A better tag might have been {{Third-party}}. - Sitush (talk) 11:27, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Sitush: I have nowhere said that the sources are not usable or unsuitable. I have changed the tag as you suggested and hope someone would fix it. I am already very much busy with some other things and tagging it doesn't put onus on me to fix it as well. I have tagged this BLP for some right reason, not habitually. Thank you! --Saqib (talk) 12:45, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Sitush: I have revamped the page. What do you think of it? --Saqib (talk) 14:25, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I can't make sense of it. You have yet again done too much in one edit. On the face of it, you appear to have removed valid information as well as adding some useful stuff ... but it is really difficult to work it all out and for that reason I am going to revert and you will have to do it again, in smaller chunks. Eg: what happened to the governorship role that was mentioned in the lead? Why did you remove the family stuff? - Sitush (talk) 14:28, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
God. I was about to expand it and reinstate what has been removed. I was looking for coverage in the RS. --Saqib (talk) 14:33, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, in that case feel free to revert me and continue. I assumed you had finished because of your note above. Although I still think you should edit in smaller chunks because it really is very confusing when people make huge changes in the way that you did. - Sitush (talk) 14:37, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted your edit and assure you any information that is missing in my version would be re-added. I am aware that Khan has served as acting Governor of Punjab for a few days after Salman Taseer was assassination in 2011 (Constitutionally, in the absence of a governor , the speaker can become acting governor) but, I am still looking for a RS for citation purpose. --Saqib (talk) 14:46, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have expanded the page. I hope nothing is missing now. Please compare my version with the earlier one. Regarding family, the previous version was mentioning his father's political career in detail which is not warranted here. Khan's father has own page so why mention his political career here? Similarly, I don't think the careers of Khan's brother and cousin should be mentioned here at all. In fact his brother has no Wikipedia page so namechecking is useless. What do you think? --Saqib (talk) 15:18, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
