Name
The name isn't standing for MTV Nickelodeon: MTVN means MTV Networks! And the logo contains the MTV logo for the music and the Nickelodeon logo for the Nick programs I think i'm right
W.G. | W.G.'s user talk 09:36, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- you may THINK you're right but there is NO SOURCE to say its networks, whereas the logo is the best possible source when there isn't any other, which CLEARLY say MTV Nick. Besides, Music Television - Nickelodeon High Definition sounds more like a channel than Music Television Networks High Definition. As far as Wikipedia is concerned, the rules say you follow the source which means until MTV state otherwise it will stay as MTV Nickelodeon chocobogamermine 12:14, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
This iss pure bullshit! MTVNHD doesn't stand for MTV Nickelodeon HD! I've pure sources that say it stays for MTV Network, this is one of the most ignorant things, putting MTV Nickelodeon without notice.. never thought about e-mailing MTV and ask them?? IT'S MTV NETWORK HD and stop there!! Ask them at least, lots of sources say that, and they're not wrong... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.18.254.51 (talk) 11:24, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Another thing that confirms my right hypothesis is that MTV were going to put on MTVNHD also contents from Comedy Central (there's an article about it).. so why it would be MTV Nickelodeon HD?? Welcome to Wikipedia, that should be an encyclopedia, but it's becoming nothing but a source where everyone can type on, without real elements.. at least leave it MTVNHD without MTV Networks HD or MTV Nickelodeon HD, if you're not sure... if you're not sure about the first one, don't put the latter, as a systematic effect.. that's VERY stupid.. I'm e-mailing them asking what means MTVNHD, and if I'm right this article must be changed.. for everyone who wrote this article, I would recommend to do that as well, Wikipedia MUST BE an encyclopedia, not a random place.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.18.254.51 (talk) 11:30, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- we go by sources and the only source we have that says anything is the logo. you have nothing to backup what you say. Right now, whether it is or isn't, we have to wait until we have a reliable source. Until then we go by the logo, which shows the MTV and Nickelodeon logos. Leave it alone chocobogamermine 17:53, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Also: what does the logo show exactly? Funny, it looks like the MTV and Nickelodeon logos... You have less evidence to say that its Networks than the rest of us do to prove its Nickelodeon (a logo is as official as you can get). Also, what fits better? MTV Nickelodeon High Definition? MTV Networks High Definition? MTV Nickelodeon, they are both channels. Even if you get an email, you cant use it as a source! Jeez THATS stupid chocobogamermine 18:09, 19 April 2010 (UTC) It could very well be that it was originally meant to be MTV Networks HD and was changed to MTV Nickelodeon when they decided to only show programs from these channels then changed the logo to show MTV Nickelodeon
Why it could / couldn't be MTV Nickelodeon
I'm a diplomatic person so lets list why it could/couldn't be MTV Nickelodeon
FOR
- Both official Logos pair MTV & Nick logos along with the letters HD in the same logo as the letters MTVNHD, hinting (but not confirming that thats what it stands for). In the newest version the Nickelodeon logo is larger than the MTV logo.
- No MTVN Networks-owned channels in the world are broadcast under the 'company' name
- The company name is an umbrella term that incorporates MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Spike, Logo, etc, but the channel only shows programs from MTV and Nickelodeon
- Name meaning "MTV Nickelodeon" fits perfectly with the programming lineup
- MTV Networks HD doesn't fit well in English-language countries for a channel's name but MTV Nickelodeon does
- Channel ident/DOG only shows MTV HD or Nickelodeon HD during programs, not MTVNHD, depending on the show being broadcast, and shows the MTVNHD "MTV Nickelodeon HD" logo during now/next screens
AGAINST
- Was apparently originally meant to broadcast Comedy Central programs too
- MTVN stands for MTV Networks in terms of the company name
(Its worth noting that in Europe VH1 is ran as a part of MTV moreso than RoW, to the point that VH1 Classic was rebranded MTV Classic but shows the exact same lineup) chocobogamermine 19:58, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- UPDATE: The on channel schedule bits inbetween songs etc in fact now shows the new nickelodeon (word) logo. it shows the MTV logo directly above the word nickelodeon (in small case) next to a big 'HD'. This all but confirms the channel name is MTV nickelodeon (very tiny new logo here http://uk-tv-guide.com/list/MTVN+HD/17+April+2010/) chocobogamermine 23:14, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- also, this: http://www.vanessakoch.com/logo.html enough said. it is definitely MTV Nickelodeon. You have NO evidence only hearsay, I have the logos and the logo's designer, who obviously had the brief chocobogamermine 23:34, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
A lot of press sources say it's MTV NETWORK.. the fact that they've the two logos is because they show content from both the channels, but that does not mean nothing.. lot of channels can be peculiar and not understandable at the first look... officially it's MTV Network HD.. the fact is that at the moment I can not find any, but I'm sure if I involve someone else here, hoping also someone from MTV, we'll get the facts right Edit: here's one: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117991393.html?categoryid=14&cs=1
- no its not 'officially' MTV Networks HD. You are guessing, you only have one source, an announcement from a third party which has several innaccuracies. I have the logos, the designer's website and all the reasons above. In fact, if you look at the logo's designers website, a lot of the logos used "MTV.N HD", that says it all - implying it does not mean MTV Networks. MTV Networks is the parent company, not the channel name. Also.. the combined logo (MTVNHD MTV Nickelodeon HD) is shown during the now and next bits, even when no Nickelodeon shows are showing. Its not just for the website. That confirms it all. chocobogamermine 17:15, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- It is now indeed 'almost' sure it stands for MTV Nickelodeon HD, but i was confused because in all the other uses MTVN stands for MTV Networks (eg. MTVNE, is MTV Networks Europe, MTVN.com goes to the MTV Networks website etc.) Sorry for my fault W.G. | W.G.'s user talk 17:58, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- no problem, it still could be networks.. its just all evidence points to nick chocobogamermine 22:09, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
If you look in the press release that announces the launch of MTVNHD it clearly states that the meaning of the initials is "MTV Networks High Definition":
- "LONDON, NEW YORK and WARSAW, Poland, Sept. 1 -- MTV Networks International (MTVNI), owned by Viacom Inc (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), today announced the launch of the first ever international high definition service dedicated to music and kids, MTVNHD (MTV Networks High Definition). The channel will premiere on Monday, 15 September 2008 and will be available in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland and Sweden. The 24-hour English language service will debut at 12 noon (CET) with 30 Seconds to Mars' video A Beautiful Lie." - Viacom press release, September 1, 2008.[1]
However, the full meaning of the initials has rarely been used since, so a reasonable action would be to simply delete the part of the first paragraphs that (wrongly) reads out the full name. Perhaps we could add a paragraph on the page that explains possible meanings of the N, but it should be based on hard facts. Väsk (talk) 19:05, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Why we can / can't understand press releases
I'm a diplomatic person too. So I'm inviting you to the Rally to Restore Sanity, because if you didn't detect my sarcasm in pointing out the flawed logical thinking of these preceding talk subsections. Then maybe you should come...actually come anyway regardless.
- How many press releases does a company need to explain the name of a product before its legitimate? Once not enough? Twice?
- "With the launch of Nickelodeon HD next month, the company's first international high definition service MTVNHD, will no longer broadcast a weekend block of Nick programming and will focus exclusively on music-related content." (September 23, 2010)
- But, wait... what did the previous source said? ...a Nickelodeon programming block, broadcasting on Saturday and Sunday mornings, will play host to the network's stable of hit shows... (September 01, 2008)
By deduction, based on these two sources only, there is no longer any Nick programing on MTVNHD. That's not possible! It can't be!!
Its called MTVNHD!!! The N is suppose to be Nickelodeon!!! Its not like I drew my own conclusions based on stylized logos/idents (which obviously can't be interpreted in many different ways to begin with) instead of just reading the written statements the company made to news outlets in the first place in order to draw an adequate conclusion of "Maybe, just maybe, parent company Viacom was right and knew wtf they were talking about and I should just use that name in the article." I hope this was amusing and thought provoking. « ₣M₣ » 06:35, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- omg seriously? an 'i told you so!! na na nana na' as lenny once said 'everyone makes mistakes, thats why they have erasers on pencils' you really shouldn't brag as I'm still sure you're wrong for back then - the 2nd logo for the station did say mtv nickelodeon HD, there can be no arguments there, the first logo sorta said it. now they have changed the logo, to actually incorporate the N during broadcasts not just in now/nexts.. which they NEVER had before, it was either MTVHD or Nick/NickelodeonHD. so why a completely different logo incorporating the N, unless it WAS nickelodeon?.. more to the point.. who cares!? chocobogamermine 23:59, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- ...no one should source what something "appears" to be. What the abbreviation mean was known before MTVNHD even launched. It doesn't take must research to find it too, as others here have mentioned. Well, I hope at least you've attended the Rally! « ₣M₣ » 02:01, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
