YouTubers from Jersey

[edit]

I have added the page to Requests for page protection due to the ongoing edit war dating back to 2013 where anonymous IP users keep adding Chris Lovasz and Chris Dixon to the list of 'other notables' against the consensus view of the regular editors of the page. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 18:11, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm just posting to ask why you think these two shouldn't be added? They both seem pretty notable to me, as both have significantly sized fanbases both on YouTube and on other social media platforms. Fozzzyyy (talk) 20:17, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Lovasz

[edit]

Chris Dixon has now been added to the list. However there is no separate Wikipedia article for Chris Lovasz. A new Wikipedia entry on Chris Lovasz could be created and sufficient references to external sources added to establish notability. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 13:46, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Numerous people have wanted Chris Lovasz added to the "other notables" list. However the long-standing criteria for inclusion of people on this page is that there should be a Wikipedia article specifically about them. Lovasz is mentioned in the Yogscast page, but that isn't the same as a dedicated article about him. Having a bit about him isn't enough. Anyone who thinks he is sufficiently notable should first create a specific article about him, though Wikipedia has strict criteria about what type of person is sufficiently notable that they should feature in an encyclopaedia. If they've not been featured in newspapers, books etc. they are unlikely to meet the criteria. Just being famous on YouTube doesn't make them sufficiently notable. Chris Dixon does have a Wikipedia article specifically about him, and it cites one secondary source - a JEP article about him, which is just enough to pass the notability test. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 19:40, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In January 2013 there was briefly a dedicated article on Chris Lovasz but it was rightly turned into a redirect to the Yogscast page - see Bgwhite's edit to "Chris Lovasz" which gave the reason "If person is not known for anything outside the group, then redirect to group. Also no reliable refs". I believe that principle still holds. This page is now protected indefinitely. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 08:25, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Dixon

[edit]

The article about Chris Dixon has been deleted. The reasons for deletion are documented here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Dixon (YouTuber). In essence, while there was a double-page interview with him in the Jersey Evening Post this was the only significant coverage about him in a reliable source. There's plenty coverage about him in fan wikis etc. but these are not considered reliable sources because anyone can write anything in one of those wikis. Having a lot of YouTube subscribers does not in itself make someone notable, by the criteria that is used here on Wikipedia. Being a member of a charity football team didn't significantly help the case for a dedicated article about him either, because notability is not inherited from something you are part of (such as a football team). If in the future Dixon attracts significant coverage in the media then anyone can create a new article and see if it is accepted into Wikipedia. Until that happens, there is no point adding him to the "List of people from Jersey" article, as by the definition used by the list, he's not to be included unless he has an article about him. I am researching *Chris Jones (footballer, b. 1956) for an article, or removal from this list.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 19:33, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Jones was a football striker for Tottenham:

<ref>{{cite news | author =<!--Staff writer(s); no by-line.--> | title =These boots are made for ... football, actually | url = https://jerseyeveningpost.com/sport/2015/03/24/these-boots-are-made-for-football-actually/ | work = Jersey Evening Post | location = News |quote=Chris Jones, Jersey Soccer School coach and former Tottenham and Leyton Orient striker | date = March 24, 2015 | access-date = February 22, 2019}}</ref>

There are probably more references in the Jersey Evening Post, in Tottenham newspapers and elsewhere. I am not writing an article, but maybe a football fan might care to do so.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 01:45, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Order of names

[edit]

The section for Athletes is alphabetical, and all the other sections are by date. Should the Athletes section be changed, or are editors content with this situation? Since the Athletes section is the longest by far, changing it would be difficult. Any advice?--Dthomsen8 (talk) 02:17, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Other lists are done both ways. Texas is alphabetical, but Serbia is by date.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 02:22, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Patterson, author (b. 1929)

[edit]

I cannot find Harry Patterson, author (b. 1929), or born any date, from Jersey, and there is probably no such author from Jersey. If any editor knows who this author is, reply here.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 03:08, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Patterson, aka Jack Higgins lives in Jersey. He is not from Jersey in the sense that he was not born or grew up on the island, but the list includes people who were born, grew up, temporarily lived, or now live, on the island. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 09:15, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Two different arragements for two Channel Islands.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 01:51, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps one of these arragements should be chosen, or maybe another one? List of people from Merseyside is strictly alphabetical and without dates of any kind. Ideas, please.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 19:41, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Alphabetical, without dates. regards Denisarona (talk) 10:06, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think alphabetical with dates, but leave this list as-is.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 00:35, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Justification for stringent notability requirements

[edit]

According to WP:LISTPEOPLE, people may be included in a list by satisfying the wikipedia notabilty requirements. WP:LISTPEOPLE also says that more stringent requirements may be used to control the size of lists that could otherwise run to thousands of people. This is a very small list.

It is unclear why this stringent notability requirement was added in the first place, it was added on revision 501804259 without justification. Erentar2002 (talk) 02:25, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
