Propose rename and expansion: Electronic tattoo

[edit]

This LED tattoo article is focused on a pretty specific technology that was researched in 2009 and 2014 and hasn't gone much further since then. I believe that readers would be better served by a broader article, electronic tattoo, about tattoo-like devices that integrate electronics for medical and artistic purposes, including LED tattoos. Potential references:

Extended content

Review articles

Popular science articles

Articles about potential artistic uses

Research articles (there are a zillion of these)

I considered whether we should rename this article smart tattoo and include both electronic tattoos and tattoos that involve special chemicals for sensor purposes (such as fluorescent glucose biosensor#Smart tattoo, referenced from UV tattoo), but I don't think that's the right direction. Not all of the people working on electronic tattoo projects describe them as "smart" tattoos. These seem like related but separate concepts.

Tagging @Generalissima @Tamzin just in case you have any thoughts, since you've previously worked on or been interested in tattoo-related articles. :) Dreamyshade (talk) 21:52, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the ping! Literally caught me midway through getting a tattoo lol. I'd actually noticed this article a while ago and had wondered what could be done to salvage it. I think your idea is a great solution. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|🤷) 05:13, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
