Barn Swallows

[edit]

The Swallows roost site is much, much larger than 250 square metres (approaching 50 000 square metres by eyeball estimate) and it is NOT in line with the runway. The main issue is that just before roosting (usually in the 30 minutes after sunset) the millions of swallows flock in a large cloud which might fly across the landing approach flight path. Take-off is not affected as the rotation and lift-off happens about half-way down the runway, kilometres from the swallows. This is first hand observation. I don't have external references for this so I haven't posted it. Craigallan.za (talk) 13:38, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some nice information there - sadly, as it's original research and as there isn't an external reference, it can't go in. 41.133.73.122 (talk) 15:04, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hub for Velvet Sky?

[edit]

I don't think we can justify calling KSIA a "hub" for Velvet Sky, given that Velvet Sky currently only flies Durban-Jo'burg and Jo'burg-Cape Town. If it has a hub, then surely ORT Int'l is it? - htonl (talk) 19:35, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Considering that they're starting up JHB-Polokwane soon, I'm inclined to agree with you. Will remove then. Ron2K (talk) 19:39, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's not their hub but it is their home base. The article should mention somewhere that Velvet Sky is the only airline with its head office here. Roger (talk) 19:47, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I actually need to add some more information and update existing sections sometime. When I get around to doing that, I'll see where I can include this. (Would be a lot easier without all of those seemingly pointless and annoying anonymous edits that I keep on having to revert at the moment, but that's a whole different story.) Comair/BA flights to Gatwick?

[edit]

What is the current status of this planned route? Various IPs have tried to add it to the article but without citing a source. Roger (talk) 09:45, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Was being planned at one stage, but Comair seems to have abandoned those plans now (a few news articles on this if you go looking) -- so, not happening. Ron2K (talk) 16:45, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Incidents and accidents

[edit]

None of the currently listed incidents comply with AIRCRASH, though maybe the first (emergency) landing might rate a mention. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:34, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
