Proposed listing under the endangered species act

[edit]

Is this the same species that is currently being petetioned for listing under the endangered species act in the United States?

This is the current reference to which I refer: [1].

I don't understand how it could go from least concern as it is listed here to a petetion for endangered if it is the same species or is there another species called the Gull-billed tern? 68.111.246.29 (talk) 20:56, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The petition refers only to the western population/subspecies, not to the US population as a whole, which is not at risk. Also, the "least concern" is the bird's global status, not its US status. This is a common breeding species in warm parts of Asia, Africa and Europe. jimfbleak (talk) 05:54, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
