Destination of redirect

[edit]

Since most recent former Yugoslavia is now Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, too, maybe there should be some reconsideration to which Yugoslavia this redirect should point to. Maybe to some dab page, or simply to Yugoslavia (although this last alternative could create some confusion). Any thoughts? --Biblbroks's talk 13:26, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I created the redirect pointing to Yugoslavia in March 2004, and User:Romanm pointed it to SFR Yugoslavia the same day.
This was correct because few people think of FR Yugoslavia as former Yugoslavia, since FRY both didn't exist for a comparably long time and it wasn't actually recognized under that name by most of the world, most of that time.
In February 2010, User:Dbachmann forked it saying "article will become necessary as ties reemerge". It has since been edited, and a few days ago User:Buttons reverted it to a redirect to Yugoslavia (in general), which you then reverted again saying it refers to SFRY.
But, the question remains - do we need this as a separate article, rather than as a Legacy section in the SFRY article? --Joy [shallot] (talk) 10:05, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
IMO there may be justification in outlining what different states are meant by the term - sources before the 1990 would definitely point to the kingdom, later ones either to SFR (largely) or FR. There is no point in replicating content of either of the three here, rather the article might possibly handle the term and how it is applied, possibly comparing it to the Western Balkans and the Balkans (in general, esp. during the 1990s) and maybe SE Europe. Beyond that, I see no other point for this article with nothing better than an ambiguous title.--Tomobe03 (talk) 15:30, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But then it should be a dab page, right? --biblbroks (talk) 15:33, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The more I think about it, yes it seems like a classic case of a disambiguation... In this case a page should be there to disambiguate "former Yugoslavia" to one of its forms.--Tomobe03 (talk) 00:14, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
After some more thought, there is no "Present Yugoslavia", so "Former Yugoslavia" hardly disambiguates between anything, since all incarnations of Yugoslavia are, well, former. IMO there's no need to guess what a reader actually meant by "former Yugoslavia" since there is Yugoslavia article covering all forms of Yugoslavia since Kingdom of SHS was established in 1918 until end of FR Yugoslavia in 2003. Is there any serious objection to redirecting Former Yugoslavia to Yugoslavia or merging the two?--Tomobe03 (talk) 19:30, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Former Yugoslavia is either Yugoslavia or WP:SYNTH, so there's no need for this article. It might point to SFRY, because this is what usually meant by "former Yugoslavia". Anyway, tagging with a merge tag. GregorB (talk) 09:12, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Republic of Kosovo

[edit]

Kosovo has never been a republic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.105.60.29 (talk) 19:17, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.121.29.41 (talk) 18:28, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you understand the English word of? It is not the same as is. It is called "Republic of Kosovo", not "Republic is Kosovo", because the Republic of Kosovo is a Republic declared in Kosovo. You can declare any number of Republics any time you please. The real question is whether the world will take note. --dab (𒁳) 10:04, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
