lecture
[edit]Fredkin talks about many of the interesting events from his life in a lecture available here: http://stanford-online.stanford.edu/courses/ee380/050126-ee380-100.asx described here: http://www.stanford.edu/class/ee380/Abstracts/050126.html

[edit]I have been searching for a rights free photo but am not coming up with anything; anyone have one they can add ? --RichardMills65 (talk) 06:16, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
Revised lead
[edit]I think the following passage would serve better bumped up to the last line of the lead (rather than the last sentence I grafted on), but I didn't feel like making a larger rework:
- From 1971 to 1974, Fredkin was the Director of Project MAC at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He spent a year at Caltech as a Fairchild Distinguished Scholar, working with Richard Feynman, and was a Professor of Physics at Boston University for 6 years.
I don't think his tenure at MIT deserves more mention than this, as this make it sufficiently obvious. — MaxEnt 04:52, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Tries
[edit]The statement that he invented tries is contradicted by the Wikipedia article on tries, which says they were named by him, but described two years earlier by René de la Briandais. Noillirt (talk) 18:41, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
When was fredkin at Caltech with Feynman?
[edit]I've been trying to figure this out and can't find any references. What year did it happen? 2603:3003:127:1000:D90E:6A7C:543F:CF2F (talk) 20:10, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
- Not sure which year, but read here https://computerhistory.org/profile/edward-fredkin/. What defines "working together"? EF seems to have a not-so-standard CV. Nothing about Feynman on https://www.chessprogramming.org/Edward_Fredkin. I saw a non-official article (paper) linked and it took me some time to figure it out and correct it. The article Digital physics, a term or philosophy, needs improvements too. Also touches No original research. KR 17387349L8764 (talk) 08:30, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Update after death
[edit]Ed died very recently. The article needs to be updated to change the tense of all the verbs from present perfect to past. The section on Biographies of Living Persons obviously needs to be removed from the Talk pages. Paul Abrahams (talk) 02:23, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
The article should also include a section on his personal life. My Substack https://paulabrahams.substack.com/p/37b89728-d54d-4a6a-a8c9-e1205f300650 might be a starting contribution. I know he bought an island in the Caribbean, but I have no details. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paul Abrahams (talk • contribs) 20:23, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
