Reworking of existing material
[edit]This article has been in need of putting in an appropriate wiki style and is still in need of many inline citations. I have provided a few, but more need to be found. I have kept most of the original text, but just put it into appropriate headings. Some text has been removed as it was written in the style of a personal POV or essay. I would like someone to provide an ISBN citation for the works of Daryl Buttery, as I know he has published work on local histories in York. As always, if anyone has any comments on what i have done, please discuss them on this Talk page and don't just undo. Thanks.Rimmer1993 (talk) 16:51, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- You could try "The Vanished Buildings of York" ISBN 1871125170. Publisher: Maxiprint (September 1995) as a possible. Keith D (talk) 22:45, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Keith. I'll check it out. To any other editors, opinions required on the part in the history section relating to the dispute in the Ainsty. When looked into, this refers to the whole of the Ainsty, rather than being strictly applicable to Dringhouses itself. My opinion is that this should be removed or moved into the main York article or its' "History of" article. Over to you.Rimmer1993 (talk) 12:29, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Some of the citations are not showing in the reference section. Help please, i don't understand where i went wrong.Rimmer1993 (talk) 10:34, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- The problem was that ref 2 ended with "]]" rather than "}}". So the missing refs are there OK, but there are some errors that now need to be corrected. Get back to me if you need help (I'll be away for the next 3 days but am around this evening.) Congratulations on your work on Acomb, Holgate and Dringhouses. I'm planning articles on the Walmgate and Hungate areas. Micklegate could do with some work! Best wishes. --GuillaumeTell 17:28, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks Guillaume. Keith D has rectified the remaining typos etc.Rimmer1993 (talk) 20:59, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
Brickmaking
[edit]It seems that Dringhouses has a long history of brickmaking: [1]. I think there may be the remains of a kiln still standing south of Moor Lane in Acomb. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:24, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Having grown up in Acomb and had friends in Dringhouses, i know this has some truth as what used to be known as Oggie's pond (properly Hogg's Pond) was always thought to be where the bricksworks were. Worth looking into for a reliable reference.Rimmer1993 (talk) 20:44, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
