How long do they serve?

[edit]

How long does a commissioner serve?

It used to be that commissioners had unlimited tenure: Guy Helvering may have been the longest- serving Commissioner, at 10 years, 4 months (6/6/1933 — 10/8/1943). The IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 set a five-year term of office. The Commissioner serving when this Act became law, Charles Rossotti, served the full five years, from November 1997 to November 2002.

Thoughts on the reliability of the Tax History Project? They have a list of commissioners from 1862 onward. Tim.kennedy 01:00, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the website for www.taxhistory.org should be OK. Also, I can check it against CCH's website, which is highly authoritative. (CCH also has the list of Commissioners.) Famspear 02:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I found a historical list of Commissioners in an official IRS publication (see the new reference) and transferred all the info. Comparing it with what you entered, it seems the same, except not including any acting Commissioners. I'm not sure if the they really need to be included - I assume they were just bureaucratic caretakers, acting for a week or at most a few months until someone was appointed. I made some attempts at wikification, but some of the links are going to different people with the same name. -- Minivet 02:10, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikitabled the list, I'm going to leave it up to someone more invested in this article to check and decide whether to post it:

No article on Guy Helvering; I guess he only lives on in case captions. Green Raum, a Civil War commander turned anti-moonshiner, seems like another fascinating figure without an article. Tim.kennedy 07:17, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As time allows, I'll try to check this table against the CCH list, and transfer the table to the article if it's accurate. Stay tuned. Yours, Famspear 15:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Famspear: and @Tim.kennedy:, Would either of you add the photo of the current Commish, or remove the photos of the former Commishs? Thank you in advance. Geraldshields11 (talk) 21:23, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've sent over 5 emails to commissioner for IRS/treasury/president Biden. And not one response by them or there appointed contact's to help me since no one else at tax advocate office/treasury/Ssa will help me, either by phone/email. I've used every tool available by IRS get my payments tool. I'm due ($1400.00,$3600.00 ctc/stimulus & $2900.00 & $3100.00 fed/state tax refund)!!! I received$1400.00 but was sent back to treasury/IRS due to bank error's. Which were fixed but the treasury department will not send me back my by law $1400.00+$3600.00 stimulus payments/child tax credit. I was promised by tax advocate office id receive both as well as my tax refunds. No later than April 12th 2021. Still nothing and not one of the above or anyone else will help me. Making me/my 12 year old niece with down syndrome so we can survive. My bills unpaid for rent/utilities & no food. Refund

[edit]

I am owed a refund for 2020 taxes. Trying to confirm my identity is impossible with you by phone. I only reverted to phone because I had no luck on internet. I am told over and over with each phone call that they are too busy to take my call at this time. Well, what time would be good??? I tried enough times Margaret Ferraro 2601:881:8300:F50:8078:603:23CB:8452 (talk) 01:26, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please direct this to correct authorities. Maria Centeno of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, said to call her +19392839781 about this American company that stepped in to "help" the electrical catastrophe of the island. It is stealing money from all residents and businesses. Investigate: accurate IRS reporting of P.R. investment and collecting rates; the constant long power outages that cause foods to rot and the sick to gasp and cry for power. The Governor is pro-rich. The island heroes and tough activists have fled. Maria is waiting for justice. 2601:547:B00:CEA4:5A49:B814:5DC5:FBD9 (talk) 12:19, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
