Actor in introduction

[edit]

Considering Trotter's multiple film roles, including in Bamboozled (2000) and others, I think he should be referred to in the introduction as a rapper and actor. It already lists actor under occupation in the info box. I have made the change. MabuseTest (talk) 14:15, 8 December 2020

Black ThoughtTariq Trotter – This should be the other way around; Trotter hasn't used the moniker "Black Thought" in years (on Jimmy Fallon, he is always referred to as Tariq). --Relisted. Oppose: He still uses and is referred to by the name Black Thought all the time: on Twitter, on Facebook, on guest appearances, in interviews, on Roots tracks, etc, etc. He's far mre widely known by his stage name. - Wetdogmeat (talk) 15:31, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

T. Trotters age / systemic trolling of Wikipedia bios?

[edit]

According to the wiki page, Black Thought is born october 3rd, 1973. According to hiphopdx on twitter, he turned 50 october 3rd 2021. Other sources that cite his birth year as 1971 is: "https://www.albumism.com/celebrations/happy-birthday-black-thought" as well as several others but my phone's copy+paste function is a bit flimsy so I cant show it here, but google "+Black Thought +born +birthday" or whatever and youll see. Theres a near-concensus about 1971 being his y.o.b.

This is a serious issue cause its not limited to this article. I know several examples of legendary hiphop profiles whos wiki articles has been altered in the exact same way: the year is changed (+/- 1 or 2) but date is the same. Foxy Brown was born in 1978 instead of 1979 acc to wiki for a while but that got fixed. Large Professor was born early '72 for real but the wiki page says x/x 1973. I know 100% 1972 is correct cause of personal connections plus hes mentioned his age in a couple of his lyrics.

Sometimes the error is limited to a specific language wiki (Im swedish so Ive seen a few of these small but annoying sabotages there), but english is the "core" wiki regarding the subject of hiphop so if someones systematically trolling I would guess its in the english wiki. Ive corrected a few of these errors over the years but Ima let this one be for now. But anyone who feels obliged, imo youre free to make Black Thoughts birthday 71-10-03 (n. european format) IHSjohansson (talk) 19:21, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Tariq" vs. "Tarik"

[edit]

There's been some back-and-forth in the edit history on this one, so I thought I'd bring it here.

Reliable sources (the Times, Forbes, Deadline, and the Philadelphia Inquirer) have all in recent articles spelled the article subject's first name as "Tariq." Google Books searches confirm a seam in the last decade where the journalistic consensus switched over. If you want to cite this in the article itself, feel free to pull any one of these as a source. 1971 or 1973? 98.226.225.74 (talk) 15:14, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this issue has been raised previously here (see 'T. Trotters age / systemic trolling of Wikipedia bios?' above). Certainly AllMusic cites 1971 here, and it is not alone in stating that year. At best we should be editing in a note that his date of birth is disputed, although I feel that the earlier date is almost certainly correct. Any thoughts on this subject, which has been rumbling along for several years now ? Thanks, - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:24, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I accidentally deleted Black Thought's whole page except for a thorough discography!!

[edit]

Help!! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to delete his entire page, I don't KNOW how it happened. I only wanted to make sure his discography, specifically his guest appearances, were extraordinarily thorough, so I spent the better part of 3 hours trawling through discogs and Tidal and wherever I could to add around 40 guest appearances. In my quest for completeness, I somehow deleted his whole biography and everything. I feel terrible. Please don't punish me Wikimedians. I immediately tried reverting the edit, sacrificing all my gains for the sake of bringing back the important info, but I couldn't undo my last revision because of a 'URL that is blacklisted"!! It is claimed that because About.com is cited, I cannot undue my last revision!! But I never cited About.com! Never go there! I thought I'd easily restore his page but now I don't know what I can do!! I'm a bit of a troglodyte, I don't really know how to use advanced wiki tools!!! Please don't ban me, I do good work for the rapper discography music nerds here!! I'm sorry Tariq!!! Hittmanicverses (talk) 14:41, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
