"Jade" is a gender-neutral name. While not entirely implausible that Jade is a girl today, Jade was a boy in high school. Please confirm or leave neutral if unknown. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.165.23.249 (talk) 07:42, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
Banned references on Wiki
[edit]References Wiki deletes as blocked site:

I don't think Wikipedia likes using search results as a source. The Highbeam link is better, but a paywall is inconvenient for most users. Grayfell (talk) 23:58, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I meant that where I have used the search results, I did it to show the first hit, India Forums, as that is the reference that Wiki doesn't let me link here. That India Forums link gives the full article without having to register. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.188.112.2 (talk) 02:03, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
Well 3 quarters of it are available on the India Forums page, here is the last bit that is missing:
"Hindu spirituality continues to attract youth from various countries. Verena, 25, is a first-time visitor to the Kumbh from Germany and is so overwhelmed by the spiritual rituals here that she wouldn't mind settling down as a disciple in the Juna Akhara.
And 24-year-old Dase, another Kumbh first-timer from Latvia, is only too keen to give her company.
Susan, who has come from the US, is still debating whether she should abandon her filmmaking career in California and settle down to a saffron life of Hindu renunciates.
"I will go back at the end of the Kumbh Mela but I might be back soon. The divinity I have tasted here has been an unparalleled experience, which I cannot describe in words," said Susan.
The list is endless. Besides the over 450 foreigners in the Maheshwaranand camp, the Juna and Maha Nirvani Akharas too boast of nearly 250 people belonging from 17 countries who have chosen to embrace the Hindu spiritual path.

- Oh! Of course, I should've caught that. The India-Forums link is probably a WP:COPYVIO, although I didn't know the site itself is blacklisted. Regardless, forum posts are not often usable as sources, per WP:RS and WP:SPS and many others. There are exceptions, but this doesn't look like one of them. Grayfell (talk) 04:41, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
Shri Mahant at Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara
[edit]I fully understandn your reasoning for removing the FB link so I put it and others here for future reference:
Rampuri made Shri Mahant at Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
His real name
[edit]Whilst he has refused to give his real name[10], it has now been revealed as William A. Gans[11][12][13][14]
- Good find, I'm glad you are adding this, and the accompanying story, to the article. Grayfell (talk) 02:55, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
Rampuri v. Stern
[edit]This action involves the alleged breach of a contract pursuant to which plaintiff was to secure the commitment of an ancient religious society of monks and yogis in India to participate in, and lend their name to, a large spiritual event in New York City.[15][16][17][18][19][20][21] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.188.112.2 (talk) 02:47, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
Ethnicity
[edit]His father was a dental surgeon,[22] possibly Jewish,[23] with he himself saying that he is circumcised.[24] However, he also talks of himself as being a 'white boy'.[25].
- It should be noted that neither being white, nor being circumcised are directly related to being Jewish. Many boys, especially those born in the US in the 50s were circumcised for non-religious reasons. Likewise calling oneself a 'white boy' doesn't indicate being non-Jewish at all. The relationship between 'whiteness' and Jewishness is complex, and far outside the scope of this article. Grayfell (talk) 00:17, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- I removed the reference to Judaism from the article, as it was presented speculatively in the BBC source. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:29, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

FRAUD WEBSITE
[edit]I would like to report that the so called "Anti Rampuri website" is not only a fraud website, I was impersonated by the culprit obtaining a domain name, the website consists of my stolen intellectual property, copyrights, trademarks, and logos, as well as illegally obtained personal correspondence, private photos illegally obtained and violating copyright, altering my own written text to defame me, and soliciting funds in my name which is a serious fraud. I believe that if you will investigate, you will find that there are contributors that very well may be involved with attempted blackmail and extortion, and even possible that the article from the beginning may be part of an illegal campaign violating cyber laws, and part of an extortion and blackmail scheme.
I'd be very happy to communicate with any of you who are reading this, and I believe I have ample evidence of what I am saying. My interest is to stop this kind of activity.
I believe this is such a serious violation of your principles, that it warrants a review of the article from inception, as well as private communication with me.
With best wishes,
Baba Rampuri — Preceding unsigned comment added by BabaRampuri (talk • contribs) 19:57, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hello. It's clear that you are right about that site, it's garbage. It's got many serious problems, and should never be used as a source in this or any other Wikipedia article. I have removed the links from the talk page. As for your accusations of blackmail and extortion, that is extremely unfortunate, and it sounds like an issue you should take up with the authorities. Can you give any specific examples of how this article is being used in support of such activities? This is a serious matter, so I have started a discussion at the Biography of living persons noticeboard (Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Baba_Rampuri), so that more editors can be involved. Grayfell (talk) 20:56, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Grayfell, Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Baba_Rampuri, no longer work.
- That discussion has been archived here: Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard/Archive183#Baba_Rampuri. (As a reminder, please do not edit archives.) Any further discussion should probably be held here, or a new notice can be posted if necessary. Grayfell (talk) 01:22, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
