Department
[edit]Catatumbo isn’t listed at Norte de Santander Department#Regions and municipalities? Kowal2701 (talk) 07:47, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Maybe because Catatumbo is a geographical, not a administrative region. ArionStar (talk) 01:30, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
Context?
[edit]It is not clear on an initial read what the motivations were behind the attack. What are the dynamics between factions such as ELN and FARC? What tensions erupted? Were any statements made? I understand that this is a current event and context may need to emerge over time. Doughbo (talk) 19:01, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- FARC and ELN are leftist communist guerillas, which in recent years shifted more towards the role of drug cartels than insurgents, FARC as an organization was disbanded all the way back in 2016, but some of it's ex members continue to operate as guerillas, ex-FARC and ELN, although nomically ideological allies have serious territorial disputes especially in the areas where the contraband is produced for which the two factions have clashed many many times, this current offensive by ELN was initiated as a result of one such skirmish earlier this month resulting in heightened tensions, ELN gave the reason as the death of a family (three civilians) which promoted this offensive, but on ground both the sides have committed serious warcrimes including the killing and kidnapping of dozens of civilians in this particular offensive alone, moreover the Columbian authorities are working as a third party, there was an ongoing peace process between the factions and the government which was hampered by this assault leading the Columbian authorities to deployed 5,000 of it's troops and to initiate a counteroffensive against ELN Waleed (talk) 05:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

[edit]The request to rename this article to 2025 Catatumbo clashes has been carried out. |
2025 Catatumbo attacks → 2025 Catatumbo clashes – Due to Operation Catatumbo, an offensive against the attacks. ArionStar (talk) 02:31, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- Strong support, it has escalated from a single attack to a full on military offensive utilizing armoured vehicles and artillery as well as the deployment of 5,000 regular and 1,000 special forces operatives, renaming it as per nomination and changing the infobox are necessary Waleed (talk) 04:58, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
