Argentina's 30th "final appearance"

[edit]

Argentina does not have 30 final appearances in the Copa América, because the tournament was played in a round robin format until the 1960s. The article Argentina at the Copa América has a part about winning finals in which it not only mentions finals, but also earlier decisive matches that gave Argentina the championship.

But you cannot call those matches "finals". Their win against Brazil in 1957 wasn't even their final match (it was their penultimate match) and the team that they played against in those decisive matches did not always finish as runner-up. Even crazier: their match against Brazil two years later was decisive in the fact that it gave Uruguay (!) the championship. I would suggest to remove that particular sentence in this article. It´s ok what you say. It was not the 30th final for Argentina in Copa America, it was the 8th.: 1937 (playoff vs Brazil), 1993 (vs México), 2004 (vs Brazil), 2007 (vs Brazil), 2015 (vs Chile), 2016 (vs Chile), 2021 (vs Brazil) and this of 2024 (vs Colombia). They are 8 final matchs. As you said, the most of Copa America editions between 1916 and 1975 were played in round robin format. I corrected this in the article.
