Helenelund is a station on Stockholm's commuter rail network, located 11.1 km north of Stockholm Central Station in the Helenelund district of Sollentuna Municipality. The station consists of a single island platform, with the entrance located at the northern end, accessible via an underground pedestrian tunnel. As of 2015, the station had approximately 5,400 boardings per weekday.[2] The station is located about 500 meters from the major office district of Kista in Stockholm Municipality, making it a key commuter hub.[3]

History

[edit]

The station opened in 1922 as a stop on the Northern Main Line (now part of the Ostkustbanan). Its construction was driven by demands from the growing population of the area, with advocacy efforts reaching the national government. The current station was built in 1994 when the railway was expanded to four tracks.

Helenelund station is frequently used by commuters traveling to and from the Kista business district. Despite its relatively small size, the station plays an important role in regional connectivity.

The surrounding area is undergoing significant redevelopment, with plans for new residential and commercial buildings, as well as a new public square and a planned terminal for the Tvärbanan light rail extension to Kista.[4]
