Submission declined on 8 January 2025 by FuzzyMagma (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. This submission reads more like an essay than an encyclopedia article. Submissions should summarise information in secondary, reliable sources and not contain opinions or original research. Please write about the topic from a neutral point of view in an encyclopedic manner. Declined by FuzzyMagma 9 days ago. |

Sheikh Ali Samatar Al-Madhibaani(Arabic: شيخ علي سمتر; Somali: Sheikh Cali Samatar) was an Islamic scholar active in the Mudug region of Somalia. Born in Harardhere, Mudug in 1893, he is known for his efforts to spread Islam and promote religious education in the region.[1]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Sheikh Ali Samatar was born into a family with a strong tradition of Islamic scholarship. His lineage traces back to Sheikh Maxamed “Madhibe,” a figure associated with religious leadership among the Madhibaan community. During his youth, Samatar traveled to Merca and Mogadishu to study Islamic teachings under the guidance of 12 prominent sheikhs.[2][1]
Religious Contributions
[edit]After completing his studies, Samatar returned to the Mudug region, where he focused on spreading Islamic teachings, particularly in Hobyo and neighboring areas. The region, described in historical accounts as having weak adherence to Islamic practices at the time, posed significant challenges to his mission. Local inhabitants were initially resistant to his teachings, and he faced threats, imprisonment, and other obstacles.[1]
Despite these difficulties, Sheikh Ali Samatar's efforts led to a revival of Islamic practices in the area. His teachings gained acceptance, and he became a respected figure in the region. Among his written works are:
- Qowlul Nafiq
- Qayatul Miram
- Talfiqul Muhim
These texts are considered important contributions to Islamic scholarship in Somalia.[1]
Legacy
[edit]Sheikh Ali Samatar passed away in 1952 CE (1372 AH). His contributions to Islamic education and practice in Mudug continue to influence the region. He is remembered as a significant religious figure whose efforts strengthened the foundations of Islamic faith in the area.[1][3]
