Deadletter is an alternative rock/post-punk band based in London, England..[1]. As of 2023, The band consists of lead vocalist Zac Lawrence, guitarists Will King and Samuel Jones, saxophonist Poppy Richler, bassist George Ulyott and drummer Alfie Husband[2]
Background
[edit]Zac, George and Alfie have been playing music together for years back in Yorkshire, where they come from[3]. In 2017, they moved to London and Will joined them to form the band Mice On Mars, that would become a couple of months later Deadletter, with the addition of saxophonist Poppy Richler and guitarist Sam Jones.
Releases
[edit]The band released a couple of singles before releasing their first EP, Heat! in 2022, containing singles Binge, Madge's Declaration and Weights. The EP was released via British independent label SO Recordings.[4]
The band released two singles in 2023, The Snitching Hour and Degenerate Inanimate[5]
On September 13, 2024 Deadletter released their debut record titled "Hysterical Strength" on Rough Trade. German music magazine VISIONS named it one of their records of the week[6] and gave it a 9 out of 12 rating[7]. British music magazine NME gave "Hysterical Strength" a 4 out of 5 rating[8] writng: "the post-punk band are in thrall to life’s contradictions, busking at the crossroads where beauty meets brutality, fearsomely strong while also embracing the hysteria."
