Canada's first professional sailing team, the NorthStar SailGP Team was launched in 2022 at the start of SailGP Season 3 in Bermuda.

Driver Phil Robertson (NZL) recruited a handful of the world's best sailors to put the foundations in place for this team which went on to inspire the nation to get back into sailing and try out foiling.

weCANfoil, was also launched in 2022 and has become an internationally recognized foiling pathway program. With the support of RBR and the NorthStar SailGP Team, weCANfoil, now has 11 foiling hubs across the country.[1]

On 1-2 June 2024, the inaugural Canada Sail Grand Prix took place in Halifax. Breaking almost every record in the history of SailGP with a record breaking number of spectators lining the shoreline and tuning in from around the world for the debut. SailGP will return to Canada in 2026.

In September 2024, the team was acquired by Greg Bailey, MD a Canadian bio-tech entrepreneur. Phil Kennard joined the team as Team Principal and CEO, with Giles Scott a the new driver for the team.

Double Olympic gold medalist, Giles Scott, won the ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix in 2024 as driver of Emirates GBR SailGP Team, was part of the INEOS Britannia campaign for the 37th America's Cup and holds a Canadian passport.

The Rolex SailGP Championship includes 14 events and started in November 2024 in Dubai.[2][3]
