X:IN (Korean: 엑신; RR: Eksin) is a multinational girl group based in South Korea.[1] Managed by Escrow Entertainment, the group consists of five members: E.sha, Nizz, Nova, Hannah and Aria.[2][3] They made their debut on April 11, 2023, with single "Keeping the Fire".
Name
[edit]In an interview, one of the members, Aria, revealed that she came up with the term "EXIN" as it is derived from a Latin word which means "furthermore". This term was later evolved into the stylized form "X:IN" where X symbolises an unknown variable, as seen in mathematics, representing the group's mission to convey concepts beyond standard definition through their uniqueness and talent.[4][5]
History
[edit]2022-23: Pre-debut activities
[edit]Before joining X:IN, E.sha was member of groups like Rusty.G and Laonzena.
Nova was part of the dance cover team Dalcom, where she performed K-pop dance covers in public. She also worked as a voice actress, dubbing characters in Russian. Nova joined Escrow Entertainment through online auditions and underwent only four months of training before debuting.[6][7][8]
Aria, known as an second Indian K-pop idol, was a former child actress. She appeared in Malayalam movies such as Thank You and Melvilasom.[9][10] Like Nova, she joined Escrow Entertainment through online auditions.
Roa debuted as a soloist on April 24, 2017, and was also a pre-debut member of Daily.
Similarly, Chi.U made her solo debut in November 2021 and was a member of the dance team Majesty. Additionally, she appeared in episode two of Dreamcatcher's Why Not Me.
2023–present: Debut and Line-up changes
[edit]On April 11, 2023, they made their debut with single "Keeping the Fire".[1][4] Due to personal circumstances, Chi.U departed the group in June 2023, followed by Roa in July 2023. In July 2023, the company announced a lineup change, introducing two new Korean members, Nizz and Hannah.
Synchronicity is the first mini-album, released on August 30, 2023. The album includes four tracks: Synchronize, Close My Eyes (겁이나), Cat&Tiger, and an English version of Close My Eyes.[11] It was made available in two physical versions, ORDER and CHAOS, each containing a photo book, random photo cards, a postcard, and a message ticket. To promote the album, X:IN performed on various music shows, released a music video for the title track Synchronize, and engaged with fans through live broadcasts and social media. The album received mixed reviews; some praised the group's potential, while others criticized the production and vocal quality. Despite the mixed response, "Synchronicity" helped the group gain greater exposure and expand their fanbase.
The Real is the second mini-album, released on February 25, 2024. The album features four tracks: No Doubt, My Idol, Withdraw, and Never Sorry. Each accompanied by instrumental versions. The title track "No Doubt" showcases the group's dynamic performance and musical versatility. "My Idol" pre-released on February 19, 2024, delves into the challenges and aspirations of trainee life, reflecting the members personal experiences.[12] The track gained significant attention for its relatable theme and heartfelt lyrics, quickly becoming popular among fans and aspiring trainees.[13] The album spans genres such as dance, pop, R&B, hip-hop, trap, and EDM, encapsulating the members' journey from trainees to idols and conveying their sincere emotions through diverse musical styles.[2][14]
