In 1821, he was appointed prosecuting attorney. He remained in that role until 1823. He worked as solicitor of the Bank of Chester County for more than 15 years.[1][2] He was one of the founders and principal manager of the Chester County Athenaeum. In 1837, Dillingham was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing Chester County.[1][2] In 1841, he moved to Philadelphia.[1] From 1846 to 1852, he was counsel for the Bank of Pennsylvania.[2]
