Changes to grading and templates
The templates we use for grading have changed slightly - instead of using our own templates, we use those from Wikipedia:Version 1.0 with a few of our own additional templates left over. The big news is that Template:WPBeatles has been updated to display the article classifications. Please see that page for instructions, and Template talk:WPBeatles for an example. Talk pages which use {{WPBeatles}} without a parameter are placed in Category:Unassessed Beatles articles, those with assessments get placed in a Beatles article category specific to that quality level. This is to allow Mathbot to automatically build tables of our articles for consideration by the Wikipedia 1.0 team - see Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Index of subjects (will update to include our Project and Wikipedia:WikiProject The KLF later tonight, I'm told).
Please note that if {{WPBeatles}} is used on a non-mainspace article - such as Category talk: or Portal talk: - it should be used with a descriptive word as a parameter, such as {{WPBeatles|category}}. As well as altering the first line displayed by the template it will ensure that we don't get non-mainspace articles (categories, portals etc) listed in Category:Unassessed Beatles articles.
I've now amended the {{WPBeatles}} for all non-mainspace articles, all articles under letter A in The Beatles category listed overleaf, and all A-class articles. If others would update the tags for the others it would be great. --kingboyk 20:12, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm in the process of doing it now, with AWB. --kingboyk 09:41, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've updated the template to handle importance too. I'll tag a few articles as proof of concept/to try and establish some standards but I continue to think it's best to hold off on article assessments until we know if the bot will be updated to handle comments and our non-standard gradings. (I'm hopeful that it will, as the bot is getting ever more advanced). Of course my importance gradings shouldn't be taken as gospel and can be changed!! --kingboyk 15:13, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Back soon
I've moved the old system out to Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles/Article Classification/Archive 1, and got this page about 75% ready for the new system. Once a few issues are ironed out (see Template talk:WPBeatles) we can update the instructions and reopen this department! :) The new system should if anything be easier, and we can give it a good plugging in the next newsletter. --kingboyk 11:12, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
