[edit]How this project came into existence
[edit]I am an avid reader of Wikipedia and I prefer to start my journey from wikipedia pages when I come across any name which i have not heard earlier or about whom i do not have much information. It does not matter whether it is related with academics or government (politicians, civil servants) or any organization etc.
Generally, when I come across any professor's name in any field (generally, I ended up with Professor in Economics, Maths, Computer Sc or Finance), I prefer to go through his/her biography. From there, I come to know about his personality, his traits, what he has done, how did he reach that level, what contributions he did to his field/nation, how can I learn from him etc.
During the course of time and with some abstract analysis, I found that professors of premier Indian institutes don’t have their wikipedia pages. I have an experience of 2 active years in IIT Bombay, staying with some of the best minds of India (not sure whether they are best in World) and I have seen a number of professors doing their research. I feel that there are some(if not all) professors in IIT Bombay who have contributed to their fields and their nation up to the extent that there should be a place where people should know about them, their traits, their personal life, what/how they have contributed to their field/nation, what they are doing as of now etc. This particular feeling has laid down this WikiProject.
