Edited Rangamati(both district & Town)

hlw, i have recently changed the name of the article Rangamati District to Rangamati Hill District. Because the official name of the district is Rangamati Hill District. Home page of Rangamati Hill District [1] also supports my statement. Permanent resident certificates presented to me by the D.C Rangamati & Mayor,Rangamati Pourosava also states Rangamati as Rangamati Hill District

I have also edited Rangamati & Rangamati Hill District. I request Administrators & contributors to take necessary steps regarding this.

thanks. Souvik.arko (talk) 14:39, 15 September 2009 (UTC)souvik.arko

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 04:54, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! End of Banglapedia?

Following on from a query on my talk page, it appears that the Banglapedia site appears to be dead, see here for an example. Should it still be used as a reference in Wikipedia? Pahari Sahib 08:55, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Someone created the page List of floods in Bangladesh but didn't put any content on it other than a navigation box with links to nowhere. I nominated the page for speedy deletion for having no content, but User:DGG declined the speedy and changed one of the links in the navigation box to go to the article on the 1999 Bangladesh floods. I was wondering if someone wants to work on this article and turn it into an actual list with content. I personally don't think the navigation box is useful (even if the article is kept and expanded). If no one wants to work on this article, then I think it should be redirected to Floods in Bangladesh (which needs a lot of work itself) or just deleted. Confusion in Delwar Hossain Sayeedi's Background

I am confused about the ‘Background’ part of the article Delwar Hossain Sayeedi. The ‘Background’ part of this article is almost a copy-paste from this link:

[2]

But the author did not provide this source (as a referenced link) in the article. What the author gave in the article (two links in ‘External Links’) does not provide us the information given in the ‘Background’. Even the second link in ‘External Links’ does not work at all. What it informs about sayeedi? That, Delwar Hossain Sayeedi was born into a "prominent business and Zamindar family", “into a Syed family tracing their roots back to Imam Ali, “ and “his family was prominent as spiritual and religious leaders in Sylhet District” and “Sayeedi completed his religious education at the Binori Town Madrassa in Karachi , Pakistan. He is fluent in Urdu , Bengali , Arabic , English and Punjabi.” But does the link provide a reliable source so that wikipedia can store its content ?? Look, ‘’He was born into a Syed family tracing their roots back to Imam Ali’’ – this is self-proclaimed by Sayeedi. Now, follow this link :

[3]

The article (found by following the second link) claims totally a different type of statement about Sayeedi’s ‘Background’. Now, does this link provide a reliable source so that wikipedia can store its content ?? If so, then the content of this article can be used. If not, the content can be ignored. Now, if any of these links provide a reliable source so that wikipedia can store any of its content ?? If not, then shouldn’t the texts (under ‘Background’ of Delwar Hossain Sayeedi) be deleted ? Or replaced by some other statements found from a reliable source ? So, what is the correct step that we should take for the ‘Background’ part of the article Delwar Hossain Sayeedi ? Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 40 articles to be referenced. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:08, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Possible BLP violation in article under your scope

Hi,

While looking at the edit history of a vandal on an entirely unrelated page I ran across the article Nangalkot Upazila, and noticed that it contains a long list of what to appear to be people's names. Some of these are under a heading of "Muktijoddha (Freedom Fighters)", and whether or not you give any credence to the saying “One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist”, the fact that there is apparently some kind of conflict that would require the existence of a "freedom fighter" means having lists of named persons with that affiliation is potentially controversial. If I'm reading that list correctly, these are not only specified to reside in a relatively small subdistrict, but they appear to be listed with full home address!

Either way, I'm not sufficiently familiar with the relevant topic to be able to tell for certain what's going on there, so I figured I'd bring it here as the most obviously relevant WikiProject. I'm hoping someone with better topical knowledge can take a look and clean up anything that shouldn't be there. In particular, if any of the named individuals are or may be currently living (i.e. are not historical figures), then the article must conform to the Biographies of Living People policy which says, in part that: «Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion.» My personal assessment is that the last two sections in that article should probably be deleted outright since none of the data in them has references (and there's a question of notability as well).

Anyways, hope someone can take a look. Cheers, --Xover (talk) 08:58, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

This notice is to advise interested editors that a Contributor copyright investigation has been opened which impacts articles of central importance to this project. Such investigations are typically launched when contributors have been found to have placed copyrighted content on Wikipedia on multiple occasions; in this case, it has been launched to help clean up multiple points of infringement against Banglapedia placed in multiple articles by more than one contributor.

Assistance in evaluating and addressing these concerns would be most welcome. All contributors with no history of copyright problems are welcome to contribute to CCI clean up. (There are instructions for participating on that page. If you aren't sure how to help and you would like to, please let me know at my talk page. I will be happy to explain in depth.) The quicker we can resolve this, the better, since often articles are reverted back to the last clean version before copyright infringements are added, wasting the time and efforts of those who may be working to improve those articles in the meantime.

This investigation may not only result in the deletion of text, but possibly also whole articles, in accordance with Wikipedia:Copyright violations, where the copyright problem is foundational. Those who do not wish to evaluate articles for copyright but who are interested in helping would be very welcome to propose new text for articles that are blanked. If it proves that the problem is not foundational, the new proposed text and the clean versions of the article can be merged.

The specific investigation which may impact this project is located here. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:38, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Chobi Mela importance

I'm wondering why "Chobi Mela" has been rated "low-importance" considering that it's the largest photography festival and exhibition in Asia, and an example of Bangladeshi culture at a world-class level of recognition. While the article needs upgrading, I think in terms of notability and importance, Chobi Mela represents a larger Bangladeshi contribution to world culture than you may be giving it credit for. Bruxism (talk) 05:36, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

In the course of evaluating the copyright concerns related to the source Banglapedia, a contributor discovered more copyright concerns in the contributions of one now retired editor, which is going to necessitate looking at his articles to make sure that we are not publishing copied content in more articles. The full list is at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/20100917 and subpages.

This one looks like it could be bad. :( This contributor was most likely acting in good faith but unawareness that we can't copy content from previously published sources with jeopardizing the legal standing of Wikipedia itself. This involves over a thousand articles, many of which are of interest to your project and many of which are quite extensive. Some of his content looks okay, but some of it is obviously copied from books and other websites.

What we really need here are volunteers to help review these articles who can carefully evaluate to see if content is copied, directly translated or closely paraphrased who can then either remove or replace unusable content. Please, any assistance you can provide will be much appreciated. It can be very discouraging to look at a stable, well-written article and realize that it must be cut apart or rewritten because of copyright concerns, but in the long run this is a great service to Wikipedia, our readers and our fellow contributors. Thanks for reading. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:15, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Bangladesh articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Bangladesh articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Persian language and Bangladesh Awami League

Why does this party's name come from Persian (according to Bangladesh Awami League) ? Apokrif (talk) 15:50, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

It's because the party was formed during the Pakistan period, in 1949 if I'm correct, as the Awami Muslim League for all of Pakistan. Urdu being the state language of Pakistan, and the language preferred by the Muslims of that time, chose the word 'awam', which exists in Urdu. Awam means people. Bengali or Bangla

I noticed that, many editors are writing, rewriting and editing the name of Bengali language as Bangla and Bengali ethnicity as Bangali to phonetically match the Bengali pronunciation /ˈbaŋla/ & /ˈbaŋali/. Same is the case for the word, Bengal being written as Bangla. I am a strong supporter of changing these words in English vocabulary from Bengali and Bengal to Bangali and Bangla. But, as English Wikipedia is supposed to be written in proper contemporary English; and name of many countries, languages and ethnic groups in English differs from the native names e.g. German is English of Deutsch, Greek is English of Hellenika etc. Some names in English are more closer to native names e.g. French is English of français, Italian is English of Italiano etc. Moreover, in articles related to these names with native spelling is never noticed. So, my editorial philosophy is to use words as proper for English while writing in English and use Bengali and Bengal instead of Bangla and Bangali. --নাফী ম. সাধ nafSadhtalk 09:10, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Dhaka Article quality

In last few months, I'm afraid that, the quality if the article about Dhaka has been degraded majorly. It seems to be overwhelmed with images and the structure is kind of sloppy now. Major reconstruction of this article is desirable. I'm sorry that, I might not be able to contribute with writing, I'm willing to keep an eye for editorial improvements.
