What happened to newspapers.com?

[edit]

It's not on Wikipedia Library list anymore, and manually trying to access it gives me errors on search. What happened? Chuterix (talk) 03:28, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Chuterix: See here. Nikkimaria (talk) 03:39, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What email address for newspapers.com application?

[edit]

The application for newspapers.com asks for:

   "The email for your account on the partner's website"

What is the correct format in this case? Humpster (talk) 09:36, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Humphrey Tribble You need to head over to Newspapers.com, register an account, and then provide the email address you used to sign up. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 12:53, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

JSTOR paging

[edit]

Hi there -- JSTOR paging stopped working a couple of days ago, ie it gives the first page of hits but won't provide any subsequent pages. It was working fine previously. Is anyone else experiencing this problem, because it's difficult to work around. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 19:50, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Espresso Addict It seems to be working for me - can you reproduce the issue today? If so, have you tried using it with any extensions you might have turned off? Or in a different browser? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 11:47, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Page navigation is working for me too (example). The proxy has been super slow lately but that's another story. czar 19:53, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Samwalton9 (WMF) -- I got my OH to update my drivers and it seems to be working now, touch wood. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 18:17, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

newspapers.com again?

[edit]

Is anybody else having problems? I keep getting "Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information)" when I go to http://www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/ RoySmith (talk) 18:19, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That's the old access method, which is no longer in use - see Phab. Nikkimaria (talk) 05:59, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks. RoySmith (talk) 16:14, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bad request

[edit]

When attempting to login at [1] using the "Login via Wikipedia" button, I get a Bad Request error message.Nigel Ish (talk) 17:17, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Nigel Ish This was a temporary error which we believe we've now fixed - please try again and let me know if you're still getting the error. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 18:18, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's working now - thanks.Nigel Ish (talk) 18:47, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can't login

[edit]

Hi,

I can't log in to the library, no matter what I try. I click 'Login via Wikipedia', my browser tab spins as though it's working, the page reloads, and all I see is the same button. I've never logged in before as I only became eligible today.

Thanks! Delectopierre (talk) 08:37, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm also having issues logging in. CarbonLollipop talkcontribs 08:07, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@CarbonLollipop @Delectopierre
That's odd. I can reproduce the error, it seems to just be affecting new logins. I've filed T383891 if you want to follow our progress in fixing the issue. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:44, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, thank you for letting me know. I will follow it. Delectopierre (talk) 03:38, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@CarbonLollipop @Delectopierre This issue should now be resolved! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 15:34, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it works now. Thank you! CarbonLollipop talkcontribs 17:02, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Worked for me too! Thank you! Delectopierre (talk) 02:16, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

What resources in the library require additional subscriptions from us?

[edit]

I have subscribed to Newspapers.com, but suspect I need to also apply for library subscriptions to ProQuest and Fold3. Is this correct? What other resources require additional applications from us? I tend to be a generalist and edit whatever article seems to need it. I should just apply for all of them, I think.

And if you have anything to do with providing this library access to us unwashed peons who just edit, thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU! It's as necessary to providing solid sources for articles as oxygen is to us. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 02:54, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oona Wikiwalker, on this page you'll see the things you currently have access to, which include ProQuest and Fold3. If you click on "Available Collections" near the top of that page, you'll see the things you don't currently have access to but can apply for. Nikkimaria (talk) 20:31, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I was confused because Fold3 has a "member login" button at the upper-right corner of the screen and when I search as a Wikipedia library patron, no images display. I guess we have some sort of other access through the library?
Is there a solution for the images not appearing? Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 02:45, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like phab:T357690? Nikkimaria (talk) 02:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Caravan

[edit]

Sources in The Caravan [2] have come up a few times recently on pages I have worked on. It occurs to me this would be a useful source for editors working on Indic subjects, as there is not an abundance of long-form investigative journalism in the subcontinent. Is this something TWL could reasonably make happen? Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask. Vanamonde93 (talk) 18:06, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vanamonde93, The Caravan has already been proposed on the Suggest page - you can upvote it there. Nikkimaria (talk) 20:31, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I was unaware of that page. Vanamonde93 (talk) 21:21, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A version of the Library for those who don't meet requirements?

[edit]

Hi, so I used to be eligible for this but since I havn't made 10+ edits in the last month, I can't use it. Is there a version that folks that don't met all the requirements can use, or good alternatives for the same ammount of resources? It seems a bit limiting to only allow active wikipedia editors access to these valuable resources. DNocterum (talk) 08:10, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
