Why no native dark mode?
[edit]What are the technical reasons why Wikipedia STILL does not have a native dark mode option for guests? Who is determining the priorities on the UI design and why don't they prioritize the #1 most requested feature? Onlyloggedinfordarkmode (talk) 18:41, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. I 100% agree. 31.17.92.45 (talk) 20:14, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

- Is this why even though I have dark mode setting on my OS and browser, it doesn't detect automatically and use it? Why is it that I have to press a button, and moreso, why does the setting seem to be forgotten after awhile requiring me to press the dark mode button repeatedly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.18.1.163 (talk) 13:39, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- LOL it's because there is no leadership. The fact that it's still stuck in the 1997 version of the internet even though it came out in 2001 is the perfect case example for why communism will always be a failure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.88.109.46 (talk) 00:50, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- but they've had a bot that shows up in 3 seconds to police your signature for over a decade. Howabouta bot that comes along and says "hey bro would you like to see this page in dark mode?"?? ~Signed a confused Wikipedia user, 10/15/2024, approx 9pm, from a Massachusetts IP LOL — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.88.109.46 (talk) 00:54, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Automatic toggle (prefers-color-scheme)
[edit]The default should be a stylesheet with both dark and light mode colors, using media selector "prefers-color-scheme: dark" to automatically enable dark mode for those users who have set their browser/device setting for dark mode. Then no further toggle/widget is needed, but if you insist, you can keep an override option in preferences. 179.51.60.239 (talk) 02:42, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- It should be the default, but at least it’s possible now with the Vector2022 (default) skin: If you select it, you have a “Color: [Light, Dark, Automatic]” option, and selecting “Automatic” does what we want — flying sheep 11:40, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
Red links are blue
[edit]I use Wikipedia's dark mode on my phone, PC and iPad, and red links appear blue across all devices. Maxeto0910 (talk) 02:54, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Maxeto0910: Hello, which dark mode are you currently using, and have you checked your js/css first? I am unable to reproduce this issue in the the native dark mode. Thanks. SCP-2000 03:46, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'm using Wikipedia's native dark mode as well, and JavaScript is enabled. I use Google Chrome on my phone and PC, and Safari on my iPad. Browser and OS versions are up to date on every device (except for my Galaxy S9+, which only runs Android 10). I'm using an adblocker on PC, but that shouldn't affect anything relating to this issue, should it? Maxeto0910 (talk) 05:14, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Maxeto0910: Hello, could you please provide the screenshot if possible (you may upload the screenshot to imgbb.com), and have you tried to use the safemode? Thanks. SCP-2000 11:54, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- The issue seems to be completely fixed now on all of my devices. Maxeto0910 (talk) 17:58, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Infobox images
[edit]I noticed that some pages are being edited to invert the infobox image (typically a logo) for dark mode, for example here. Can this be done automatically? This isn't the standard way to format images in infoboxes, and going through every page with a vector logo seems tedious/disruptive. InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:08, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
unlisted option?
[edit]i used Special:MobileOptions to get dark mode on Wikipedia, but i don't see that link here in the Wikipedia:Dark mode project page (skimming with a bias towards the Options for unregistered users section). Any reason? Should i not use the Special:MobileOptions page? i know some links have different names but the related terms/synonyms can redirect/shortcut to the same target (sing, singer, and vocals go to the same page; wp:DABMENTION and mos:DABMENTION link to the same page section)--does Wikipedia:Dark mode mention Special:MobileOptions by some other name?
Wishing everyone safe, happy, productive editing/holidays.

Dark mode issues help desk?
[edit]Is there a port of call for editors who need help resolve a dark mode issue with a template? Like WP:Village pump/technical?
If not, can someone give me the requisite adjustment to background-color: var( --background-color-neutral-subtle, #fdfdfd)
so that it gives a faint grey 'upgrade' from white and a faint grey 'downgrade' from black, as the occasion demands? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 16:56, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
