Here's the course description: Environmental policy is one of the most important, and contested, areas of American politics. The enactment of most environmental policies requires difficult trade-offs that result in clashes over the role of government in society and the relationships between humans and the world around them. This course examines the context surrounding the debate, enactment and implementation of environmental policies. We will explore the complex interactions between politicians, bureaucrats, pressure groups and the public on issues of the environment. We will then examine the policies that the political system produces and their effects on American society. Throughout the course we will place a special emphasis on the way in which political actors frame issues related to the environment.

The students will work individually and in groups to do research on environmental politics in the United States and then add detail and update existing Wikipedia entries. There will be a particular focus on environmental policy at the state and local level.
