Below is a list of standard naming conventions for geographical features and other places in the Czech Republic. "Thou shalt follow them." Note that fictional names are used in the examples
- Municipalities (obce) are disambiguated by name of the district (okres) in parentheses, e.g. Radlice (Klatovy District).
- Parts of municipalities (části obce, městské části) are disambiguated by name of municipality/town in parentheses, e.g. Radlice (Kladno).
- Rivers are subject to geographical naming conventions. Articles on European rivers do not normally add "River" before or after the name (the UK is the exception) e.g. Radlice. If disambiguation is needed then add "(river)" or "(stream)" after the name e.g. Radlice (river). In the text it is quite acceptable to qualify the name with "river" either in front of or after the name e.g. "the river Radlice" or "the Radlice river" to aid understanding.
- Dams and reservoirs are subject to geographical naming conventions, "Dam" or "Reservoir" after the name should be used, e.g. Radlice Dam.
- If there is an ambiguity between mountain or hill and other geographical feature, "mountain" or "hill" should be added to parentheses, because it is deemed prefix "Mount" is somewhat silly for the Czech Republic, e.g. Radlice (mountain) or Radlice (hill).
- If there is an ambiguity between several mountains or hills, mountain range should be added to parentheses, e.g. Radlice (Sokol Mountains).
- If there is an ambiguity between several mountains or hills from the same mountain range, mountain range and elevation in meters should be added to parentheses, e.g. Radlice (Sokol Mountains, 1250 m).
- If there is an ambiguity between several rivers, name of the river to which it empties should be added to parentheses, e.g. Radlice (Sokol).
- Castles are subject to other naming conventions, "Castle" after the name should be used, e.g. Radlice Castle.
- Rules presented above should be used also when there is an ambiguity between a place name and non-geographical feature, e.g. if Radlice were also a magazine or a brand of beer.
- Geographical features that are shared by the Czech Republic and its neighbours should follow the rule "name given by article creator is good", to avoid edit wars and controversies. However, names can be subjected to discussion and proper Request for move.
