One of the goal of this WikiProject is to assess the quality and the importance of each chess-related article.

  • You can learn a bit about the quality assessment scale here, and a bit about the importance assessment scale there.
  • You can find a list of articles that have not already been assessed by clicking on the Unassessed link.

The depth of your assessment shall depend on the quality of the article:

Chess-WikiProject template

This template belongs on the talk page of all chess related articles. The syntax is: {{Chess-WikiProject|class = |importance=}}, the two parameters are: class and importance. Class is any of FA, A, GA, B, Start, Stub, List, Cat, Template and NA. Importance is any of Top, High, Mid, Low, NA. For an example see for instance Talk:Sicilian_Defence.

When you use the template, the pages will be logged into Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Chess articles by quality by an automated bot. Articles should be nominated and reviewed for A-class at Wikipedia:WikiProject Chess/Review.

When you create a new chess article, please add this template to the talk page and add the article to List of chess topics.

Importance scale

Importance The article's importance, regardless of its quality
Top Extremely important, even crucial, to its field, and very significant beyond it
High Contributes a substantial depth of knowledge with significant impact in other fields
Mid Adds important further details within its field, with some impact beyond it
Low Contributes more specific or less significant details, or is mainly of specialist interest
Bottom Not notable for chess aspects, but for which chess is a notable aspect.
NA NA (Not applicable). This is normally Templates or Talk pages.
??? Default, priority unknown because nothing is assigned to its priority.
