All occupants survived the crash, but nine of them died after they went to get help. The remaining survivors were rescued 21 days after the crash.

1948 Steinkopf Douglas DC-3 crash [de] 3 Douglas DC-3/C-47 8 July 1948 - A USAF Dakota C 47 "Candy Bomber" took off from Wiesbaden-Erbenheim airfield shortly before 11 pm in order to transport supplies to Berlin, which had been surrounded by the Soviet Union since 24 June 1948 as part of Operation "Berlin Airlift". The aircraft crashed on the south side of the Seinkopf hill with two crew and a passenger. The pilots were unable to gain sufficient altitude quickly due to excessive takeoff wieht or were uncertain of their altitude due to darkness. All three members died due to the crash.
