The Dame in a Peter Pan pantomime

[edit]

In various pantomime productions of Peter Pan (none of which I have seen performed) I note that the Dame plays the role of 'Mrs Smee'. Is this the normal role for the Dame, and if not, what other roles have they played? Am I also correct to assume that Mrs Smee is the mother, rather than the wife, of Mr. Smee? -- Verbarson  talkedits 15:21, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

See: Pantomime dame. Accordingly, Characters who are played as pantomime dames are often, though not exclusively, older, matronly women. So, less likely to be Mr. Snee's* wife. 136.56.52.157 (talk) 19:38, 24 September 2022 (UTC) Edit: however, panto scripts tend to vary; one has Mrs. Snee* as Snee* Jr's mother,[1] Mr. Snee's* wife?.[reply]
That's Smee. You might be thinking of Snickersnee. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots22:24, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a character from J. M. Barrie, although in the original play, Smee has to ask what a mother is. [2] Smee is generally portrayed as well into his middle-age, so a wife is plausible; the only clue that Google can find is that Mrs Smee is being played by Christopher Biggins at the Darlington Hippodrome this year, [3] perhaps I'll give that one a miss.
