Concerning The Entertainer (Rag)

[edit]

The Song "The Entertainer" By Scott Joplin. The song is featured in quite a few of the "Gran Turismo" Games. Usually for where the Oil Change and Car Wash is featured. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.64.106.80 (talk) 02:31, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a question we can answer for you? --Jayron32 02:36, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please see our article, The Entertainer (rag), or have a look at the sheet music, which is now freely available, or listen to a midi file, and come back with a more specific question if none of these links contain the information you're looking for. --NorwegianBlue talk 20:52, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The OP may be suggesting that we add his information to the WP article? Alansplodge (talk) 01:24, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone help with Money?

[edit]

There is a song that came out in the 60s I think. The only words that I can remember is "Money". It's repeated several times in a row... "Money money money money mooooonnnney, moonney." It's not the Pink Floyd song or "Money (That's What I Want)". There's a good amount of synthesizer used and it's been used in various movie soundtracks the names of which I can't recall at the moment. Can anyone tell me what some I'm thinking of? Thanks, Dismas|(talk) 03:04, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If it is that, I don't think there are any synthesizers at all. It's a bass guitar with a phazer effect pedal, guitar, drums, and a live horn section, IIRC. --Jayron32 03:10, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's it!! And yeah, I'm pretty much rubbish when it comes to identifying musical instruments and such. Couldn't carry a tune if you put it in a bag and so on. Thanks again!! Dismas|(talk) 03:14, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thirstin Howl III's Con Calma.

[edit]

Does anyone know who is the woman who sings in Thirstin Howl III's Con Calma (0:41) and what song is the sample from? Thank you in advance. --190.19.75.190 (talk) 03:27, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Land speed record attempt

[edit]

(I'm assuming this counts as "Sport" - if not, I'll move the question to another desk).

About 10-15 years ago, a group of college students (or equivalent) were planning on breaking the land speed record using an F-104 with the wings cut off. What happened to them? Tevildo (talk) 17:34, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like a terrible idea:
1) The wheels couldn't handle those speeds.
2) You actually need reverse wings, to create enough downward force to keep the vehicle in contact with the ground. Without that, even the tiniest rise will launch the vehicle into the air, only to crash back down.
I imagine that any official would disqualify such a vehicle from any sanctioned attempt. StuRat (talk) 17:39, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Are you talking about this? --TammyMoet (talk) 18:12, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, it was (according to my imperfect memory, at least) a serious attempt, although my thoughts were much the same as StuRat's when I first heard about it. (I assume they wouldn't be using the original undercarriage, at least). I was just wondering if they ever got it beyond the "good idea at a party" stage, or whether common sense prevailed. Tevildo (talk) 18:19, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The article Land speed record might lead to something useful. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots20:15, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In 1997, Craig Breedlove made an attempt on the LSR in Spirit of America - Formula Shell LSRV, powered by a GE J79 engine from an F4 Phantom. I wouldn't really describe Craig Breedlove as 'a group of college students', but could this be what you were thinking of? - Cucumber Mike (talk) 21:26, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And using an engine from a jet is a far cry from using a jet with the wings cut off. StuRat (talk) 21:27, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The current record holder ThrustSSC also uses Phantom engines, although from a British Phantom which had Rolls Royce Spey engines. It was the first car to officially break the sound barrier. The project director, Richard Noble is now building a car based on a Bloodhound missile Eurofighter engine and a custom-built rocket motor, called Bloodhound SSC[1]. Oh, ye of little faith: F-104 Starfighter to Be Used for Land Speed Record, December 9, 2010. Look at their website - North American Eagle, or you can watch it on YouTube. Note the lack of "reverse wings" ;-) Alansplodge (talk) 00:18, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia Has An Article About Everything! See North American Eagle Project. Alansplodge (talk) 00:45, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much! 400 mph unofficially? Well, luck can hold sometimes. :) Tevildo (talk) 10:33, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's far from the current 763 mph record. You can get almost that fast with a wheel-driven vehicle. I suspect that they don't feel safe going any faster, due to the lack of reverse wings. I will mark this resolved. StuRat (talk) 15:15, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you check the web site they are planning an attempt at the 512 mph women's land speed record this summer. And then will begin planning for the men's record. Rmhermen (talk) 16:48, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why are women slower? HiLo48 (talk) 18:35, 23 April 2012 (UTC) [reply]
And, without reverse wings, I predict failure and quite possibly a very bloody death. StuRat (talk) 02:00, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think it will be on Pay-per-View? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots11:47, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
