The euro is the official currency of the European Union. It is the single currency in the eurozone as well as in some non-member states. All euro coins have a common side showing the denomination and a national side specific to the issuing country. All coins can be used in all member states where the euro is in use. The euro symbol is inspired by the Greek letter epsilon and refers to the first letter of the word Europe. The two parallel lines symbolize the stability of the euro.
